Any treatment advice? The slightest temp change or stress trigger and my cheeks are burning.

I use skin and me. Seems to be working

Lararoft · 01/12/2025 22:14

Invermectin cream from the gp works for my dad. Also wear spf 50 daily and avoid skincare products containing alcohol.

I had a particularly bad flare up July to October, nothing was working. I heard about Grahams for eczema and how effective it was. I bought the face wash and anti red cream for rosacea and that has cleared it up. It’s quite expensive, £20 you can buy it from Holland and Barrett. I was on antibiotics from the GP but they didn’t seem to be helping. But this stuff there was a noticeable difference in 3/4 days of using x2 daily.

Do you get the spots and rough skin?
I only get red cheeks and ears, like you at temperature changes, but also practically every evening (after my evening meal and when I'm settled and warm I guess). I assume it's type 1 rosacea and am not sure how to treat either!

Jamfirstest · 01/12/2025 22:33

No rough skin. Spots occasionally but they will respond well to any old spot cream and be gone overnight.

Going on Wegovey worked for me.

I had rosacea for quite a few years although I didn't realise what it was for ages. First my skin starting breaking out in spots/pimples/acne in my forties. This went on for a few years. Then I started getting bright red burning hot face at the drop of a hat. I thought I having hormonal changes / hot flushes.

Anyway I read up about it and decided it was actually rosacea.

Went to private GP and he agreed. I asked for invermectin as I had read on here that it worked wonders for rosacea. The GP gave me two perscriptions and told me to try his suggested one first. He gave me clindamycin lotion which I apply to my face each day.

He said I shouldn't take antibiotics in pill form as gut problems can cause rosacea so he didn't want my good gut bacteria being destroyed. The lotion is an antibiotic lotion that kills bacteria and calms inflammation. It is used for acne but it seems to be working pretty well for my rosacea. The red flushes are getting less and less. Unfortunately I am being left with broken veins in my cheeks but I am hoping if I can get the flushing under control I can either learn to live with the veins or get them laser zapped.

He said the clindamycin is gentler on the skin and also cheaper to buy (private perscription was £25 and for the invermectin which I didn't fill was going to be £125). He gave me 3 months supply and I'm about 2 months in and instead of flushing most days for hours at a time it now seems to be about once or twice a week at most and for a shorter duration.

Stress seems to bring mine on and it was horrible standing in shops with a giant red face like a beetroot.

I hope this helps. It is so nice to see my face looking pale and white again!

@AfternoonLatteHasToStop this is exactly what’s happening - the flush at the drop of a hat thank you. Will arrange to see gp I’m glad I’m not the only one!

Just checking in to say I thought the grahams anti redness wash and it had an immediate effect. Honestly thought I just had to live with this so I’m quite surprised.
dp bought me a gel mask you freeze and this gives a lot of relief though once it wears off I’m burning again!

Mirvaso gel. I have type one, so flushing only, no spots or rough skin. Mirvaso gel is an anti-dilator so it stops your capillaries dilating and getting red in the first place. Apply it once a day and it lasts about 12 hours. It’s prescription only but you can easily get it using the online pharmacies, I used Boots. It’s £50 but lasts for ages as I use less than a pea size for my whole face.
it doesn’t always work for people, I took a few attempts, it can cause more redness or white patches. But I’ve found it great for going out days so only use it occasionally. I have very fair translucent skin so thick makeup or the green tints don’t work for me. I’m also a red head so having a beetroot red face is a nightmare.
For skincare, I use Dr Jarts green stuff which is aimed at redness and facial flushing.
Ongoing skin care, I get laser treatment ( not IPL) every couple years to get rid of actual broken veins. It’s £140 a session, usually get 2, definitely helps reduce overall permanent redness.

See a dermatologist find out what type of rosacea you have. I was prescribed Soolantra and it’s worked so well, no redness and my spots have all gone.

Massivescreen · 03/01/2026 10:09

Yes like others have said, invermectin/soolantra on
prescription has sorted my rosacea out.

sixtiesbaby88 · 03/01/2026 10:47

Soolantra! I tried everything and Soolantra (ivermectin cream) cleared it up within days. I was prescribed it by a hospital dermatologist as my skin had flared up really badly. Prescription only but Superdrug do it through their online service. Or your doctor should prescribe it now it is more commonly used

I use really gentle products without perfume and I layer up oils and serum under moisturiser followed by a mineral sunscreen.
These things all really help but the biggest change to my skin has been from cutting out refined sugars and eating lots of kimchi and sauerkraut. It's been quite a revelation to discover how massive the effect is on my skin from diet.
Also discovering my dry skin was down to low ferritin was quite a game changer.
