Thigh chafing remedies - HELP!

Summer's well and truly here (she says, typing from 36 degree heat in New York) and I'm suffering from the dreaded thigh-chafe already .

Other than lose weight or wear trousers/tights is there anything I can do to reduce the discomfort? I considered talc but have horrible images of clumpy white powder falling from between my thighs as I walk. Fanjo dandruff anyone?

Are there any such things as tights which just cover the thigh area? Cycling shorts would be taking things a bit far I think...

they seem to be ok , rolling wise, i always wear maxi skirts, so not a problem re length

the body shaper tights seem to roll less

lulumama · 09/06/2008 17:39

no, no shredding

I favour the comfort shorts from Evans option - even had to wear them on my wedding day - luckily I have a very chilled out husband and rest assured they were peeled off before we hit the marital bed so to speak. I started suffering from this problem as a teenager as soon as i hit puberty - seems to be excessive sweating from fanjo area (but weirdly I don't sweat from armpits very much at all if ever). Sudocrem is not bad either but still not great. I'm thinking old fashioned cotton bloomers - roomy airy, great under floaty skirts. [goes off to google bloomers]

I second the anti-perspirant between the thighs - just put it on when you put your underarm stuff on and voila. Makes a hell of a difference.

PixelHerder · 09/06/2008 17:59

oh and running the antiperspirant rollerball along the areas where your knicker elastic sits between your legs is also quite effective in preventing a sweaty crotch (sorry if too much intimate detail )

I use (and have done for years) fullers earth powder.....it is much finer than talc and it "sticks" and prevents further rubbing. Been some good ideas on here though......

Wow - I feel I've just earned a MNet stripe - being told to lose weight by Cod tick

Yes I could do with losing a few pounds, but am quite happy with my body shape. TBH even when I was a size 12 (and am 5'10 so was in good proportions), my thighs still rubbed when I walked.

But 'tis true, I don't really want to wear shorts underneath skirts - will be trying the talc/anti-perspirant/vaseline routes first!

Out of interest Cod - how did your DH suffer from this problem? Unless he's out and about in kilts/skirts/sarongs...

I always assumed this was a problem that plagues ladies only!

If you're a pear shape your thighs will most likely be in close company whether you're overweight or not - unless you're particularly bandy. I had a 'unithigh' even when I was a skinny 8 year old.

cod - you can't compare your DH's man thighs

FrannyandZooey · 09/06/2008 20:48

I used to use this
it's a million miles from yucky clumpy talc

I do think some people are more prone to thigh rubbing than others, but do have to reluctantly agree with cod that if it is because you are overweight, it is worth doing something about it
feeling constantly in physical discomfort because of your size is surely a point at which to think about making changes if possible?
and meanwhile try the above lovely powder which is very luxurious and sensual

Crunchie · 09/06/2008 20:50

I love you lot, i am going to find that body glide

Twinkie1 · 09/06/2008 20:52

Was just going tp recommend bodyglide - I get a sore bum when running so have to use it - DH thinks it is hilarious!

Ah well done him!

I once dropped 5 stone in 7 months doing scary detox dieting followed by WeightWatchers. Those thighs still chafed though sigh

Hi Girls
I'm new to your website and feel a bit of a cheat as I'm a gran. However, I came across your site when looking for a solution to the dreaded thigh chafing! I've been overweight all my adult years and it's one of the worst things imaginable. Until this year, I've managed to survive with cullotte underskirts but I've found them impossible to purchase now.
I've made a brilliant discovery that I thought I'd share with you all as I've found them to be a brilliant solution-Sloggi Basic Longline pants. They're cotton so your skin can breath and they are so comfotable. They're long enough to stop the chafing. They also go up to size 26 which is brilliant. I found them to be very generous in fit too. I'm normally a size 26/28 but the 24 fits me better!
I hope this helps some of you to enjoy wearing skirts without feeling sore or too hot!
