cosmetic dental work - anyone had it done?

am thinking of getting some crowns/veneers on my nasty front teeth - I want to hear happy stories from people whose appearance it radically altered, or scare stories about things I need to watch out for if I do go ahead...

Not had it done, but I'll be watching this thread. Are you going to get it done here or in somewhere like Budapest??

Is it really any cheaper to go abroad, by the time you've factored ina week off and so on?

I've had veneers for the past 14 years, and they changed my life! After being on antibiotics continuously while awaiting an op, the two front teeth were worn down and had gone a yellowy colour. The veneers are easy to have put on and cheap. I can highly recommend them. My new dentist is saying she wants to do crowns instead but we're talking about £300 so I'm trying to convince her to keep on with the veneers which cost about £30 a tooth and need replacing every 2 yrs or so.

OMG - £30 a tooth? I've been quoted £250!!! bet you are not in UK are you? (lloking at your name I think I am right) - can I come to your dentist???

I have been thinking of hungary but not sure how much would cost over there and after the hassle factor, flights, week off, accomodation etc etc etc it would be worth it

my own dentist has quoted me £3K to have all I need done here - but believe me I need it. Teeth awful at moment

oooh, replacing every 2 years or so - just read that bit after the shock of £30 died down - that means £1000 every two years in UK. Sh*t. That's a lot of money - I hadn't thought about the "upkeep" if you like

my veneer lasted 10 years then broke.
i'm seeing the dentist this week to arrange for it to be crowned.

Jeangenie- I am in the UK LOL- user name is just random word for anonymity! Last one I had replaced cost £28. A well known chain of NHS dentists (don't know if I'm allowed to mention names- the place you find water in a desert anyway!)

ChopsTheDuck · 09/06/2008 16:06

I have no idea of the upkeep but my mum had them done last year and was very pleased with it. Only problem she has had is that her teeth are now even more sensitive that they were, but she would def say it was worth it. She paid more in the range of your quote.

wow, I am quite amazed that you can get veneers in UK for £30. Maybe if your dentist thinks it is medically necessary and it's on the nhs I guess

My crowns are necessary but the rest is just cos my teeth look crap!
