How to curl stubbornly straight hair?

I’m no spring chicken.
Other than old school perms which seemed to be phased out in the 90s, they were probably toxic nothing has ever put so much as a wave in my thin, fine hair.
Seriously, it is like baby hair.

Today I gave it my best shot. I used the pink Tigi stuff then dried it using my hairdryer until it was just damp. Then I curled it with my tongs.
It came out like a wavy, crunchy, birds nest.

Even hairdressers can’t curl it. If they wave it it’s dropped by the time I leave the salon.

I’m not really after curls, I’d just like a slight wave around the face.

Anyone any experience and suggestions?

What about those soft bendy curlers left in overnight?? They used to be popular in the 80's, sorry I can't remember the name!!

I know a little bit about hair, and sorry to say, the type of hair you describe can never take to being curled. It’s impossible.

How long is though, can’t you just be happy with a few pretty up-dos on rotation?

Honestly? You can’t. You just can’t. I’m sorry. But it’s a lost cause. However once you go through menopause your poker straight hair may go a bit mental, mine is now half curly, half straight, and I honestly think back with fondness on that stubborn straight hair

@shellyleppard my MiL was a hairdresser back in the day, one Christmas we were talking about it and she said I’ll curl it. She used the bendy rollers and… it didn’t work 😂

@Notrurno actually that makes me feel a bit better about it, that you’re an expert and it’s impossible.
My hair is bra strap length and yes, I wear lots of up-dos. Always have.

Thing is I’d like those waves around the face that people have at the moment, they look pretty.

Incidentally they have those things now that are effectively large crimpers that put waves in the hair, would they just fry my hair?

Straighteners. But it’s not very good for your hair. My hair is very fine but a lot of it and a bow fry can drop out in 15 mins even with half a can of Elnett, but straighteners putting a curl or a wave on can last a whole evening. I mean.. it drops but the drop looks better than the curl. So it’s fine.

@CrabPuff that’s exactly the thing that doesn’t work on my hair, which is why I made this thread.
Tongs through the front with plenty of product is what my hairdresser has done and it drops before I leave the salon. She’s a great hairdresser too, has tried different products and tried to be inventive with them, still my hair won’t curl.
