Xmas weekend Liverpool

We’re going to have a 2 night stay in Liverpool just before Christmas and I have never been there before. What are the ideal day to night outfits that will be weather appropriate but won’t make me look underdressed? I usually wear a skirt or dress with DMs for day to night but I do also love a bit of glam so happy to dress up more if that’s the done thing. What do 40ish year old women wear out? Also- not style and beauty I know- but where would be good to go just before Christmas?

You can dress up as much or as little as you want in Liverpool! For an Xmas night out, I'd go full on glam, most women will be - but glam can be your DMs with a nice dress!

Can't really help with places to go as I don't go out much, but there will be a Christmas market on (tends to be mainly food) and there'll be lights throughout the town centre. To eat, Bacaro at the top of town is really nice, and there's a nice gin bar near there actually (or there was about 4 years ago). Liverpool Gin Distillery - they sell their own gin too :)

Christmas … Hmm … Let’s see - maybe a cathedral? Or two cathedrals, one at each end of one of the prettiest streets in the city? Hope St has both the Anglican and Catholic cathedrals, the Everyman theatre (find out what’s on and try to get tickets), the Philharmonic Hall, numerous places to eat and drink, and Hope St Hotel which is utterly lovely.

Close by is the Tung Auditorium which hosts excellent concerts.

There’s an inexhaustible amount to see and do in the city centre - world class galleries and museums, Albert Docks, shopping. But one unmissable thing, about twenty minutes by rail or road is Anthony Gormley’s Another Place sculpture installation on Crosby Beach:

Antony Gormley: Another Place

Antony Gormley’s installation comprises 100 cast-iron sculptures made from 17 different moulds taken from the sculptor’s own body, installed on Crosby Beach on the Mersey Estuary. The 'iron men' all face the open sea, and evoke the relationship between...

^^ all those things are nice too, I was thinking of just night time stuff!

Thanks both- we need daytime activities too and are staying at Albert docks so they are very useful suggestions.
Should I be thinking fake tanning/curled hair high heels? I do love getting dressed up so no issue but don’t want to be out of place if under dressed/ over dressed. I’ve got a nice fur coat to keep me warm which would go with dresses or jeans

You are going to love it. Go as full on glam or as casual as you like. Scouse girls go FULL on when on a night out however because the city has a massive number of universities you will find lots of students round the city centre on nights out dressed very casual. Things to do :

download the fever app and see what’s on in St George’s hall when you are here. They do lots of immersive shows and candlelight concerts and they are beautiful. The Christmas market is also situated at St George’s hall and is worth a wonder. You can’t miss it if coming by train as Lime street is directly opposite.

cat cafe on bold street if you like animals, cafe Tabac on bold street has a great vibe of an evening. Gloria’s is a great bar. Soul train is an over 25s bar in Fleet Street ( not the best area in busy periods round Christmas but the music is great). The Albert dock is beautiful of a day however lit up of a night is so gorgeous and it’s also filled with restaurants and bars.

The 360 tour of the liver buildings is really good. It’s one of the four graces and such an iconic building.

Take a walk down Matthew street if your into the Beatles or maybe a tour bus where you can hop on or off at different locations such as the Anglican cathedral, Anfield, pier head etc and if you fancy a bit of ice skating the pier head has a winter festival on (google it) .

Enjoy, you will be made to feel very welcome that’s what our city is best known for.

Whilst I can’t speak about Liverpool style specifically (albeit I have heard that Liverpudlian women are glam and make an effort to get glammed up, so what I’m about to propose doesn’t necessarily exactly align with that) but for Christmas getting dressed up, if your style tends more towards DMs - I always think you can’t go wrong with velvet at Christmas in jewel colours (or black, if you’re me….) - always works with chunky boots I think too.

Do all of that but no high heels - it's very cobbly and a lot of walking, wear comfy shoes!

You'll be fine so long as you're not wearing steelies or trainers (and tbh nice trainers with a nice outfit would be fine).

You can never be too dressed up in Liverpool! The first time I went out with people from work I wore what would have been perfectly acceptable as dressed up in London, I was totally under dressed compared to everyone else! Now I would get my hair blow dried and my make up done professionally for a night out.

Just be careful if you wear trainers as some bars won't let you in. We had that one night and they wouldn't let my boss in because he had trainers on, smart ones.
