None of the Elemis balm/eve lom stuff is cutting it with my eyeliners and mascara’s now and also they hurt when they get in my eyes

I remember a lamcome one from years ago with was blue which was gentler but since that was 20 years ago I’m sure there are better formulations now

could you recommend yours?

I get an Amazon subscription and it’s so cheap!

Baby lotion made my eye lids swell up.
I had read about using it on Mumsnet but it didn’t work for me ☹️
Avenè is very gentle but I don’t know what it is like removing waterproof mascara as I never use that.

I reacted to baby lotion as well.

deeahgwitch · 28/11/2025 21:37

Boots stock another very gentle eye make up remover called Optase Life Sensitive Eye Make Up Remover and it’s not too expensive. It is an ionised cleanser and I can actually use it - you can count on one hand the number of eye make up removers I can use !!!
La Roche Posay too do a gentle one as do Clinique - their Naturally Gentle Eye Make Up Remover but again I don’t know how they work with waterproof mascara as I don’t use it.
Oh to have non sensitive eyes. ☹️

The Ordinary Squalane cleanser, hands down. Rub a bit between your fingers to warm it up, which turns it from cream to oil, then on your eyes, only need a tiny bit, so much stuff for sensitive eyes is heavily scented but this stuff is so neutral and will get ANYTHING off and gently. Its miles better than Elemis for me which was almost too oily (if that makes sense) and its cheaper! Its SO good, I've tried nearly every other option on this thread and find them so overly scented or drying or leave a residue (delighted they work for others though) so if they dont work definitely try this.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/11/2025 21:52

@LaurieFairyCake I used to use the blue lancome one too - can't remember what it was called.

I'm on my fourth(ish) pot of clinique take of the day now. It's brilliant.

ElleBelleLou · 28/11/2025 22:02

another vote for Nivea! only thing that gets off my mascara and lash glue etc

FletchFan · 28/11/2025 22:05

It's funny how so many people recommend the Nivea one yet that one has been the worst for stinging my eyes.

The Simple one has been best for me.

Creamcakeries · 28/11/2025 22:06

Used to always use the Nivea one but recently its made my eyes sting so I'm now using the blue Loreal one.

Clinique Take the Day Off for lids, lashes and lips is brilliant. I've tried cheaper alternatives but always revert to this one.

I second this, it’s really fantastic!
I also like the Take the Day Off cleansing balm for the rest of my makeup

1Messycoo · 28/11/2025 22:59

Baby oil, works every time .

NewGirlInTown · 28/11/2025 23:45

Another vote for Body Shop Camomile. I’ve tried so many others over the years but always come back to it.

GellerYeller · 28/11/2025 23:55

Am I doing the Nivea one wrong? It seems to take at least two applications to shift my mascara(false lash mascara, not waterproof).
The best I’ve ever used is a YSL one. It takes everything off in one swipe but it’s outside my budget now! Mac’s cleansing oil is a close second.

MiddlingMarch · 29/11/2025 07:28

The Ordinary squalene cleanser for me too.

Takes mascara off quickly and doesn't make my eyes blurry. Fairly cheap and all round good cleanser.

DancingQueen2018 · 29/11/2025 07:45

Another vote for Take the Day off. The Nivea you shake works but nowhere near as well as the Clinique for me.

ThejoyofNC · 28/11/2025 20:08

The Nivea one is amazing I've used it for easily over 10 years

This

WonderingWanda · 29/11/2025 07:47

I use the Nivea one too, I have quite sensitive eyes and find this much better than the Clinique take the day off which is sticky and gets caught in my eye lashes.

coolmum123 · 29/11/2025 08:29

I have tried a few and the one I have stuck with is Bobbi Brown eye make up remover, it removes waterproof mascara and it doesn’t dry out the skin around my eyes.

edit : sp

Pashazade · 29/11/2025 08:31

Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser, doesn’t sting, works well, I usually do a second pass in the morning for last of my mascara but that’s because I don’t want to be rubbing my eyes raw, works fine, no make up on pillow.

deeahgwitch · 29/11/2025 09:28

I had a bad reaction to Body Shop Camomile. It had been recommended on Mumsnet as being very gentle by many posters on another thread, so I bought it. I had to throw it away as my eyelds sweeled up. ☹️

Nitgel · 29/11/2025 09:32

Neals Yard is great. little goes a long way

DancingInTheMoonlights · 06/01/2026 12:31
