What winter footwear to wear with wide leg jeans?

I really struggle with this! In the summer, I live in Birkenstock mules, which I wear with either very long dresses or ankle-length wide leg trousers. In spring and autumn, when it’s dry and not too cold, I have a pair of suede trainers that I wear either with or without trainer socks — but I never quite know what to wear when it’s raining, or very cold/damp out. (I do spray my trainers to waterproof them but find they can still get a bit soggy, so try to avoid wearing them if it’s very wet out.) Whenever I look at online photos of models in wide leg jeans, they never seem to be wearing socks and just have trainers/pumps on — which is great, except when it’s freezing! Most of my jeans are ankle length, and back in the days of skinny jeans, I’d wear them with knee length boots — but what do I do now they’re wide leg?? Any ideas gratefully received!

I have heeled cowboy ankle boots I’ll be wearing with my wide pale denim jeans and my cream long barrel legs. Not sure if it’s perfect but to me it works!

I just got a pair of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sorel-Womens-KineticTM-Impact-Puffy/dp/B0C74YFRH7/ref=sr_1_9?crid=undefined&th=1&psc=1
(didn't buy from Amazon and you have to google for a particular colour in your size).

But they're great, lightweight and cosy and water resistant for winter weather.

I'm a size 6.5 and ordered both size 6.5 and 7 and the 6.5 was too small.

Leather trainers (Adidas Samba or Spezials, I have loads of pairs in various colour-ways) with proper socks, not no-show type ones. I wear either white “crew socks” or colourful ones which contrast with the trainers. Alternatively DM Church boots which are quite short, just to the ankle bone.

I love my wide leg jeans but only wear them from spring to Autumn, with trainers / plimsolls.

Once Winter sets in I switch to tight ‘outdoor’ walking trousers and hiking boots for daytime.

P.S. lots of variations for winter boots at Sorel, all will work with wider width trousers

Ah, some of these look great — thank you — and I love the fact they’re waterproof too.

Ah, thank you. The (suede) trainers I have are adidas, and I find them really comfy, so I’ll check out samba and spezial. I also really like the look of the DM Church shoes/boots.

Yes, this has been me until this year — but I’m determined to keep wearing them through winter this year! (I do have to swap to slim leg jeans to walk the dog though, as that requires wellies!)

Leather Nike Airforce 1’s are very comfortable and work well with long wide leg jeans.

If it works for you, I think it sounds great. Actually, I’ve had my eye on a pair of DM biker boots for a while. I hadn’t thought of wearing them with wide leg jeans, but I guess it’s a possibility.

Thank you. I’ve had a quick google and really like them in black. (I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair of black trainers before!)

I'm going with Timberlands now the weather is wet. I've managed with loafers so far.

Terrytheweasel · 28/11/2025 17:49

I wear trainers with mine and on wet wintery days, the straight leg jeans come out, worn with Chelsea boots.

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 28/11/2025 18:34

I just wear lace-up ankle boots with mine. Brown ones with jeans and black ones with black trousers. I would also wear suede trainers if the jeans were ankle length and it wasn't raining.

LadyRoughDiamond · 28/11/2025 18:48

For day, I’ve been wearing chunkier Hoff trainers with mine. The deeper sole feels more winter-appropriate. Have just ordered a pair of black suede block-heeled boots for a smarter look.
I have some posh flats to wear for evenings with a shorter pair if it’s not too cold.

I've become obsessed wth my wine coloured Converse Run Star Hike high tops (platform), they look great with wide leg jeans, I wear thick socks to make them warmer.

Also got a pair of dark green leather converse platforms that are waterproof and thermal lined. And my stand-bys from the past couple of years are tall black leather chelsea boots.
