Help! Need to choose new veneer colour asap - A1 or B1

I’m about to have some veneers replaced across the whole top of my mouth and can’t decide between these two shades. I’m late 50s, blonde hair, green eyes, and the last lost were done a while ago and are somewhere around A1 or B1 but not sure of exact shade. A1 is slightly more natural looking but still white, B1 is a bit brighter. I obviously want them to look white but don’t want them to look false. I do notice sometimes when people have too white teeth. Dentist thinks B1, lab technician suggested A1. There’s not a huge difference but I don’t want to regret my choice as once they’re cemented on that’s it! My temporaries are B1 which are nice but lab technician said the final porcelain veneers sometimes look lighter than temporaries in the same colour. Has anyone had either colour, any words of advice? Thanks

B1! A1 looks a bit jarring. And instead of thinking oo you’ve got nice teeth (B1), people think omg those teeth (A1) would be useful in a blackout..

B1 is actually lighter than A1, bit confusing!

I had A1 (the slightly creamier one) as dentist advised it would blend with my colouring better (dark blonde/light brown hair, blue eyes, pale neutral skin). No regrets!

Oh! On the picture A1 is nicer for sure.

I can’t understand how B1 is lighter than A1. However, I would have B1. They are not blindingly white like Turkey Teeth. Also, this would allow for any slight discolouration over time as veneers can’t be lightened like your normal teeth can.

The letter relates to the underlying hue. So A= red/brown, B= red/yellow, C= grey D = red/grey. The number then relates to the value or lightness. Our eyes therefore read B1 as lighter then A1.

Those descriptions sound quite unpleasant. Who would admit to red/brown teeth? 😂

Thanks for your responses, think I’m leaning towards A1, slightly less bright.

I'm your age - and I have green eyes and (since I've embraced a much lighter colour to hide the greys) predominantly blonde hair.
Have had my veneers and crowns replaced twice due to age-related gum recession and, on another occasion, cracking. Both times, I stupidly let the dentist talk me into getting a darker shade than the one I wanted as they said it would look far more natural etc. And both times, I have bitterly regretted it! My teeth are a sort of yellowy-cream colour, and, due to being thinner on some teeth, can also look grey in certain lights. Cosmetic dentistry does not come cheap, as you know, and I should have just blooming well gone with my gut feeling. Next time, I'll be giving Katie Price a run for her money in the tooth department! And remember, your teeth will get darker due to staining from drinks and food (I use the specialist venner/crown toothpaste Veneer, which helps a bit). Go for the lighter shade is my advice.

Thanks for your response, can you remember what shade you wanted and which one you ended up going with?

I'm sorry, I can't - it was a few years ago. As I said, though, I do know that the next time I have it done, I’ll choose the lightest shade. The VITA chart is designed to represent natural tooth colours, unlike blindingly white “Turkey teeth”, so even if you opt for a lighter shade, they should still look natural.

LattePatty · 27/11/2025 22:48

I’ve definitely read before that B1 is the lightest shade that still looks natural. That’s what I’d go for.
