Face needs help!

Bigminnie1 · 24/11/2025 21:17

I have been lucky with not having many lines but finally, at nearly 54, I look in the mirror and see my mum! It’s mainly the lines at the side of my mouth- I think they are called marionette?

I don’t want fillers or botox. I drink tons of water and use no 7 moisturiser and serum but I need something. I was thinking micro needling might be a possibility.

Please can someone advise.

Face yoga? Sounds like you’re doing everything to take care of your skin. Sunscreen?

I think though we have to accept aging/ageing (sp?) is part of life though.

springintoaction2 · 25/11/2025 06:05

No idea what micro needling is - sounds painful 😃

I'm 61 and facial features have been going south for some time now. If I want to look nice I use a good quality foundation that smooths the appearance of skin, but without looking like foundation iyswim.

TroubledBloodyMary · 25/11/2025 08:06

Massage (which you can do yourself with a facial oil) and facial exercise will help to some extent.

Obviously a very good diet and no drastic weight changes.

How are your teeth? They help to support the structure of your face so it’s wise to attend to them.

Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant minimises the depth of lines if used regularly.

But I actually don’t mind mine - they give my face character.

reem123 · 25/11/2025 08:54

I know you say you don’t want filler but a tiny bit either side will make so much difference and it lasts years. I had it done once 3 years ago and it’s still kept the lines down and they are still more subtle than previously.

Bigminnie1 · 25/11/2025 12:15

Thanks everyone. I don’t know if I have the patience for face yoga although I will look into it.
A bit scared of fillers in case it looks awful…

My teeth are ok I think and I use moisturiser with Factor 40 daily .

What do people think of regimes like Dermatica?

OP posts:
mayflowers9 · 25/11/2025 12:25

Are you using retinol? My Dermatica order is a lotion with Tretinoin 0.025% / Niacinamide 4%.

If you haven’t used tretinoin/retinol before, I would build up slowly as it can really burn if your skin isn’t used to it. You could start with a gentle formula like the Ordinary’s granactive retinoid and then order the tretinoin once your skin has adjusted to that.

Bigminnie1 · 25/11/2025 18:36

No I haven’t been using it but good shout. Thank you

Retinoids will improve fine lines, but cannot solve sagging/ drooping. I am going through a course of sculptra, which I really hope improves the structure around my mouth.

Bigminnie1 · 25/11/2025 18:56

Is it expensive @cityanalyst678?

Not cheap. Around £1200 for 4 sessions.

I've been trying to soften my marionette lines for over a year now. Expensive creams, face yoga, retinol, tret, you name it. I've finally given in and have an appointment next Saturday for for filler and botox to smooth out the lines. I'm the same as you OP and nervous about filler and getting the dreaded pillow face, but the results i've seen from the person i'm going to look fantastic and very natural. I guess it's worth investigating if you aren't having success with anything else.

PenguinTattoo · 27/11/2025 21:05

I was planning Botox earlier in the year, but was never quite brave enough. 😆

However in the last two weeks I have been using coconut oil to take my make up off, "slugging*" with vaseline at night after this amzn.eu/d/fR6zK2p, and this https://amzn.eu/d/1zraFhS. I am also using an ice roller and cooling eye pads in the morning. I look so much better and younger.

I don't think I previously appreciated how dehydrated my skin was despite using much more expensive anti aging moisturizers, acids, retinol, serums, etc! I now have smooth, lovely practically line free skin. The only disadvantage is that with the rest of my face looking so much better, the single eleven line on my forehead looks more obvious (to me).

@PenguinTattooI’m intrigued…and your Amazon links don’t work! What’s the secret ingredients!!

PenguinTattoo · 28/11/2025 07:27

Oh no! Ok good news, they are relatively cheap products and definitely won't cause any harm as they are very soothing. They are Aveeno Triple Oat Serum (calm & restore) and Vanicream moisturising cream. 😊
Worth a try for under £20 for both? Hope it works for you too!

Amazing thank you!! I will definitely give this a go. I just had a long chat with ChatGPT about the state of my face (I too have what I think are deep mask-labial folds) and it was very insistent that half my problem was chronic dehydration not ageing. (And the other half was poor resting facial expression aka the dreaded RBF…)

FWIW by the way my friend’s dad who is a dermatologist is a big advocate of Aveeno.

Thank you again for sharing your tips
