I walk a lot so looking for nice flat boots which aren't boring.

but i don't think that little heal would be great for lots of walking (the height isn't an issue I can walk miles in 1-2inch block heal but I worry I would wreck these).

I like the red ones but at that price I’d be worried about getting the heel stuck in a pavement and pulling the leather off!

No to both:

• animal print - fabric = good, shape and lack of heel = no
• red patent - I cannot say one good thing about them

When in need of boots with 'personality', I tend to look at brands like Rieker. There are usually a couple of interesting ones among the staid predictability. They are always good quality, very comfortable and sturdy - so NOT calf leather!

I once took a pair of calfskin boots back to Joseph, as they'd fallen apart the first time they got wet. "Yes, they are boots," explained Mr Ettedgui in patronising but somehow adorable tones, "But they are NOT for wearing outdoors!"

Anyway, there aren't many cute ideas in Rieker at the moment but I think I like the way these look like ice skating boots:

I can't afford them either! But I have found all my Penelope Chilvers boots on eBay ...!!! In fact, bar my underwear, it & Vinted are where I find most of my clothes!

Oh I'm so glad you've discovered the joys of secondhand on Vinted! I was a bit late to it as I've always used eBay - & at first Vinted was a bit too cheap & cheerful in terms of quality. But it's improved hugely - obviously, since you got both Ivylee Copenhagen (love that brand & your boots!) & Roland Mouret! Why stick to one pair of boots for winter when you can have several ...?!! 😁

Now you just need to get to the postman/courier first to waylay suspicion about all your purchases ...!!!

My strategy, FWIW is put in a general description (flat ankle boots) for example, filter on size and order most expensive first.

My searches are usually for something specific e.g. Roland Mouret boots in Women's shoes, but sometimes the results are something like 'Gorgeous Roland Mouret style boots in fabulous condition'

What was the centaur called in the Narnja books? Reminds me a bit of that! I love the print, I have similar, leopard ankle boots, pointed toe and a small kitten type heel about 1-1 1/2”. I think the heel makes a big difference to the shape of the boot, but I’m not sure would be good for miles and miles of walking though.

I have so many pairs of boots, different styles, both ankle and knee high, and some more calf height, including ruched/slouched, also some heels as well as flats. For flat ankle boots I do tend to prefer something a bit chunkier like maybe DMs, chunky Chelsea’s etc. Moshulu are pretty comfortable and I’ve a few pairs from them too, I think calf/knee length, but they do some nice ankle boots I think. I personally prefer different ankle boots so don’t have any from there but they do have a big selection of styles and colours.
