heartofsunshine · 21/11/2025 08:29

DD has asked for this and I’ve no clue! She has 3 earrings in each ear. I’d like to get 3 pairs of earrings and maybe a necklace. I’d like to get gold, not plates if possible.
budget £150-£200
any help massively appreciated, I am struggling to figure out what’s suitable for her :)
thank you

Ask her if she has a pinterest board she can share with you (or screenshot for you). If she has one that will give you an idea of the 'looks' she is drawn to.

heartofsunshine · 21/11/2025 10:53

She doesn't, she shops mostly on vinted, she is always saving up to go travelling. She wears gold plated one studs and hoops in her ears and a necklace like this; https://www.miabellucci.com/products/four-leaf-clover-gold-necklace but they are all from primark, I'd like to get her gold.

I am not really sure where to start, so much choice!

With gold prices I don’t think you’ll get that many pieces of gold (not plate) for that budget.

there are lots of companies doing really good gold plate now which is durable, affordable but you can affford to make fashion choices rather than classic

tarheelbaby · 21/11/2025 11:12

With that budget, I recommend ebay. There are lots of options for 9ct gold earrings, large and small. Presumably if she has 3x earrings in each ear some of them are small. Also, there are delicate 9ct gold chains which might suit.

heartofsunshine · 21/11/2025 11:31

@HermioneWeasley where would you recommend? I have been trying to learn about jewellery (I don't even wear a wedding ring so am v ignorant) and thought by going for gold at least it would have some value for resale if she changes her mind in a few years. I am very open to ideas! Def don't need much at all, she is always very grateful :)

@tarheelbaby I buy all my clothes on ebay because I am very knowledgable about the specific brands I wear, I am scared of getting scammed due to my ignorance re jewellery. Do you have specific recommended sellers at all?

Solid gold jewellery sounds like a lovely gift that she’ll hopefully treasure forever.

Gold is at nearly an all time high though, so I think you’d struggle to get x3 pairs of earrings and a necklace for less than £200. Unless you can bag some deals 2nd hand (check for hallmarks & reviews if going down the Vinted route). So maybe focus on either earrings or a necklace.

Earring wise, huggies are very popular, particularly at that age group.

A lot of jewellery stores are already offering their Black Friday deals.

I personally would avoid the branded (overpriced) stores like Missoma, Monica Vinader and Astrid & Miyu. I get they have pretty designs, but the price per gold gram is overpriced. And the amount they charge for plated jewellery is insane.

9ct gold is just over £37/gram today, so I always bear that in mind when I buy jewellery to understand what margin stores are potentially making & if I think it’s worth it.

It’s worth spending a bit of time on Google to compare prices. Ernest Jones are selling a 9ct gold clover necklace on “sale” for £240, the exact same necklace is being sold at QVC for £171: https://www.qvcuk.com/gold-9ct-gold-clover-rainbow-necklace-18g.product.352127.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqYkoOL6Z73wkbPTVdaH-k4OsLmprfiK-qwThHOz1rGMlpYNbCSx9g&

Weirdly Matalan for example have affordable 9ct gold studs & pieces. Like these star studs: https://www.matalan.co.uk/clothing/golden-moments-9ct-yellow-gold-diamond-cut-star-stud-earrings/17492072.html

Pearl drops https://www.matalan.co.uk/clothing/golden-moments-9ct-yellow-gold-fresh-water-pearl-hoop-drop-earrings/15626954.html

Argos have 9ct gold huggies under £50 https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5245286?clickSR=slp:term:9ct%20gold%20earrings:8:113:1

It’s worth looking at the design of the current pieces she wears for ideas.

You can buy really pretty jewellery gift boxes from Temu/Shein. Focus on the materials of the jewellery (ie solid gold) rather than brand.

Good luck!

Gold prices are sky high. You won't be getting that at all. One pair of earrings or one necklace max.

If you can tell us what she wears now, people can give you some pointers. It's impossible to say without knowing her style.

I would probably go for a pair of gold huggies. they are popular, versatile and timeless and easy to wear (suitable for everyday).

@Ragamuffin8 those pearl Matalan ones are lovely! Matalan!! I would never have thought to look there!

@Rubbertreesurgeon thank you, I am happy to get less, I don't know what I'm doing so thanks for the help

Gold is re-sold by the gram price so if you’re selling just for the gold, earrings aren’t the best investment.
i don’t buy new gold anymore.

Have a look at secondhand gold jewellery. There’s lots on line, and most independent jewellers have a tray or two of secondhand pieces in the window.
I find older jewellery much more attractive than mass-produced almost ‘chain store’ stuff anyway.

PinkFootstool · 21/11/2025 12:06

For that budget, I'd head into a town or city and look at second hand or pawn shops.

You might be able to get one good quality pair of studs and a necklace for around that amount.

Or have a look at a few different places - I was looking at these earrings for me earlier, and Goldsmiths do package their jewellery beautifully so it'll look great as a gift!

Maybe something like this as a necklace:

they look very thin and flimsy. I don't thing they are good for regular/daily wear (but do look lovely).

tarheelbaby · 21/11/2025 12:14

@heartofsunshine , since genuine gold has a stamp (like a hallmark but simpler) on it, if they're advertising it as 9ct, I think you can be confident it actually is. You could check the seller's reviews also to confirm - if the goods are not up to scratch, the reviews will say this.

When you look at the pic's of the jewellry, check whether you can see 9ct stamped on it somewhere. (usually on the catch for necklaces/bracelets and on the posts of the earrings)
If you see something you really like but aren't sure you could ask the seller to send you a clear pic of the 9ct. mark to confirm.

Check out these ear-rings and ear cuffs. Many have matching necklaces in gold or gold plate. Choosing gold plate (vermeil) will make your money go much further at the moment. Bowie Flash Stud Earrings or these are fun Skull Threaders or cuffs Rocka Ear Cuff Wide

Just to add, I have some of her pieces. They're lovely and they come in gorgeous packaging and there's a discount at the moment.

mamagogo1 · 21/11/2025 17:44

I would look in places that do second hand jewellery, you’ll find them in cities, more for your money or consider silver perhaps

HouseWithASeaView · 21/11/2025 20:44

Monica Vinander have lots of stuff half price at the moment. They are likely to have another half price sale before Xmas but may not.
I agree with everyone else that it is over priced for what it is but, if your DD is into brands, she might like it. After all, no one would buy Tiffany jewellery if value for money was all that mattered and yet their sales continue to do well.

Etsy has some lovely items and often cheaper than high street. Just google 9ct gold clover leaf for example. You could also maybe get her to favourite 20 plus items she likes then select from the list so its still a surprise on the day.
