Help please Mumsnet stylists !
Suggestions for something smart to wear from my nieces wedding in January please. Its not in a church, but a big hall in a historic building. Early afternoon wedding then on to meal and evening function.
I am 60, size 14/16 average height and a tendency to be a bit busty. Want to look smart and put together but not frumpy. I am very sporty/outdoorsy so have an extensive selection of riding and running gear and very little else ( apart from a decent overcoat).
Thanks

I attended a wedding late January. This is probably really obvious, but please choose a coat that is very warm as well as smart/wedding-friendly! We were outside for ages taking photos and it was BALTIC. My coat was OK but some attendees either didn't bring a coat (just a wrap), or, brought a duvet/padded/'dog walking' coat.... the former froze, the latter looked awful in the pictures.
Again really obvious point but you'd be surprised how many people dress for a wedding on the semi-conscious thought routine that it's in the spring/summer (given most weddings are!) and don't factor in being outside for pictures for quite a while!

Edited

Quite !
I am surprised by the people who have suggested things with bare shoulders and lightweight fabrics ( lovely though they are ). I am also on granny duty so that will be a good excuse to stay inside with Grandma, where hopefully there will be a roaring log fire. I have a smart wool overcoat.

I wore this to a wedding recently with pointed tan flats and a short faux fur jacket. There's a long sleeve version too and a shorter one.

Yes I think florals are more forgiving to a slightly lumpy figure. Thanks.

Would you go retro?

How about a jumpsuit? This is slightly over budget now but the website suggests a black Friday sale is imminent

Or a silk blouse and wide leg trouser combo

this is beautiful. I was loath to try a jumpsuit becasue I am petite and curvy btu honestly the tow I have are my favourite things to wear

You can wear a shapely jacket with a skirt that covers your knees. Or with trousers. Or culottes and boots if you prefer.

My point was that anything’s better than the droopy polyester frock people seem to imagine is the only option for a woman in her 60s. It’s possible to choose something else.

if it were me, for a January event I think I would be wanting a warm feel fabric, rather than something very light and floaty. Also, maybe deeper colours. I think the Joe Browns or the Sosander dresses would be good choices (or something similar to those ). In fact, I would probably be looking for something long sleeved.
