Can I wear a jumper to an interview?

I have an interview mid december at a university for a non academic / professional services role. I'm needing help for interview outfits as I've worked entirely remotely since pre pandemic and I'm most comfortable in jeans!

I'm a size 18-20 but want to look slim. 5'5 with short legs and long body so not 'petite'. I don't like heels due to having balance / health issues.

I'd like to wear a jumper as its Scotland and likely freezing plus I have reynaud's syndrome so I'll be freezing out but potentially roasting inside depending on their heating.

Maybe around £50 max for a nice jumper? I'd like a colourful one but probably plain rather than patterend. Professional and not to casual.

Also a black blazer on top of it or would that not look 'right'? Would need recommendations for a nice blazer too please!

Thanks all

I'd definitely wear a blazer. What about a thin turtleneck? Warm but without extra bulk?

Blazer. Definitely blazer. The easiest look is a M&S black blazer over a white top and some trousers. Jumper too casual/ shapeless unless thin material UNDER blazer, also black

I shouldn't be giving out advice on style and beauty, but I went to an interview in black trousers, white blouse, and a fine knit v necked jumper (uniqlo merino). Gave me the option to remove the jumper!!

BUT their dress code is seriously casual (I didn't know this beforehand) and having got the job, my current work wardrobe is jeans, teeshirt and sweatshirt!! So by their standards, I was pretty dressed up!

That sounds absolutely fine. I’d skip the jeans. But other than that interviews are generally not as strict as they used to be on what you wear. As long as you’re presentable and don’t look like you’ve just rolled out of bed it’s fine

There are some nice thermal vests on M & S at the moment you might consider if you don;t want a thick jumper.

I did use to have a boden blazer I loved when i was skinny but I couldn't afford boden now, unless anyone has a significant discount code?

If you want a smarter looking jumper I’d go for a finer merino wool. I think Uniqlo or John Lewis own brands might work. I personally don’t go for bright colours that much for myself so I’d choose a burgundy, forest green or navy. A polo neck or a slash neck under a blazer looks quite neat. You could do an all over colour which creates a column which is more flattering that breaking up your body with high contrast colours like black bottoms and white top. If the merino wool is not warm enough you could look at a thin top underneath like a Heat tech from Uniqlo although I’d be a bit cautious of too many layers because the stress of the interview is likely to make you feel hot.

I have a few M&S merino ones that look pretty smart, I have grey and burgundy I am wearing right now and a yellow one I wear in spring. They have lots of colurs

I think a very fine, plain jumper would be ok under a suit jacket/blazer. With a skirt or trousers to either match or fit in with the blazer. Possibly a thin, small scarf at the neck, but that might be too fussy. Then knee high boots or court shoes

have a look on vinted for Boden/ Hush / Joules blazers. I’ve found that things like that tend to be sold in good condition as they’re worn less often

I’ve done loads of interviews lately and no one has come in a blazer, a smart jumper seems fine.
