Help with frizzy hair!

Mrswhiskers87 · 16/11/2025 10:01

My hair is very thick (many strands, not thick strands necessarily) and a few inches below my shoulders. It’s quite wavy…. And uncontrollably frizzy.

I don’t know how to make it less frizzy and keep spending money on products that don’t do a lot. I’ve tried a few frizz ease shampoo/conditioners, more natural shampoo/conditioners, frizz ease serum and frizz ease hairspray. If I put the serum and hairspray on it’ll look okay for a hour or so but that’s it. i don’t towel dry my hair, it goes straight into a microfibre wrap after washing and then I air dry.

Help!! Also to add, I only use cruelty free products.

Kerasilk treatment at hairdressers. It lasts around 6 months and costs about £120. It doesn’t stop the curl but works really well on frizz. 100% worth it.

Sounds like your hair is curly.
Get some curl cream, gel, and a diffuser and see how you get on.
Umberto Gianni's curl set is a great into into upkeeping curly hair.
My hair was very frizzy, since I embraced the curls its never looked healthier.

Hello, I had this same problem for years, to the point I just never wore my hair down because I hated it so much. I then discovered the brand fable and mane (holi roots set only!!! not the other black tea new one they brought out) I first bought a travel set £30ish and it lasted 6weeks to see if I liked (I generally wash my hair once or twice a week). I could not believe the difference. I have been using it for two years now and my hair has never been silkier, healthier and more manageable. Ethical company and great customer service. When I buy the full set, oil, shampoo and conditioner & in shower mask it costs maybe £140 but lasts about 6 months. They do offers quite often too.
I would also recommend on top of this using heat protection (even air drying) eg Olaplex or REVLON PROFESSIONAL Uniqone Hair Treatment.
Then when dry finish off with bed head curl crème in the pink pump bottle. I’m not sure about the ethics of the other companies I’ve recommended but I know they don’t weigh or leave a residue in my very temperamental hair. Finally, tying hair in a loose pony, plait etc and at night wrapping in a silk head wrap, got one for £10 from boots and has massively improved my hair day to day and upkeep (which is very minimal 😂).

really hope this helps!

Thanks I’ll ask my hairdresser, I have asked them and they said there aren’t any treatments they offer but will check again. I like the wave so not trying to get rid of that.

Hi I have tried the girly girl method - probably should have said - but it didn’t really work. I genuinely think my hair is just wavy? It didn’t make much difference to my hair. But maybe I’ll need to stick at it for longer.

This is really helpful thanks. I’ll check out the Fable and Mane products and your other recommendations. I’ve stopped wearing my hair down too, which is annoying as what’s the point in having long hair when it’s just scraped back all the time 😅😅😅

Back to do an update as I’ve found things that work!

I use Aussie Oh My Gloss products - shampoo, conditioner, hair mask and a leave in serum. Takes ages to wash my hair now but it comes out very silky and smooth.

i comb it with a wide tooth comb in the shower when the hair mask is on, and comb it in a slicked back style. rinse and wrap it in my new microfibres towel turban from Oh My Curls. Leave it for about 30 mins then remove towel and put Aussie serum in. I leave it to dry in a slicked back style as I find this makes it much less frizzy somehow.

Once air dried I comb it into its parting and style. Then I spray anti-humidity Lee Stafford spray and I’m good to go! At night I wear a silk turban from Oh My Curls and I wake up with smooth hair!

A palaver but my hair looks so much better and feels so much softer.

if it’s wavy and not curly, a modified curly girl routine may help (wash with shampoo not conditioner, use a treatment and conditioner with more protein than moisture etc, there are Wavy girl fb groups for info). Frizz ease is too heavy and doesn’t hydrate the hair, leading to more frizz generally.

Dummydimmer · 28/12/2025 11:46

things that helped me. 1 oiling the ends every night. Stop washing it every day. Combing ends of hair first, finding a hairdresser who understood. Finally got it cut very very short recently as I had a hospital stay and long period of convalescence. Looks good and easy to manage, saves money too.

Tie it up on top of your head at night and use a silk pillowcase. I got mine in November and it’s really beginning to make a difference.
