Corporate gift card - which one?

Hi, so I will receive a long service gift card from my company soon. It will be worth £500

So if you were in my shoes what card would you choose and what would you buy?

Definitely a first world problem!

I am slightly overwhelmed by what to do with it.

Did you know you have to pay tax on it?

Thetrainer · 15/11/2025 18:48

Yes, even with the tax it doesn’t make sense not to accept it.

Although it has to be a gift card and can’t be cash.

If I could trust myself to definitely spend £500 on something I wanted, I’d get a supermarket one so that I could free up £500 in actual money to spend anywhere. Don’t do that if you just won’t spend it on something good though!

Otherwise I’d pick John Lewis. Definitely not one4all or whatever it’s called.

John Lewis/Waitrose.

Thetrainer · 15/11/2025 19:33

Yes John Lewis seems to be the one most people are suggesting.

John Lewis would be my vote too, I spent £400 in there yesterday, they’ve got some great bargains at mo lol

NotGalinda · 15/11/2025 19:47

John Lewis and then book a personal shopping session to get advice on spending it. If you're like me, I'd just end up buying clothes like ones I've already got and skincare I won't use

Not necessarily true! The employer may use to gross up and pay the tax themselves. So worth OP (and others in the same situation) should check.

Yes this is exactly the trap I want to avoid…already have a load of stuff I don’t wear / use!

I would buy a piece of jewellery or a nice bag.

minipoodlemum · 15/11/2025 20:51

Oh! Just remembered that an ex employer of mine gave me £100 and I chose John Lewis and bought Christmas tableware - sparkly napkins, plate chargers, table runner and little Christmas stockings to hold cutlery. Very indulgent and i enjoy them every year.

Thetrainer · 15/11/2025 21:47

Thanks @minipoodlemum that sounds lovely. Dh reckons I won’t be able to resist spending it on the Dc lol.

Does anybody have really nice quality leather knee high boots. I’m not really interested in them being a designer brand but would love really soft leather.

I have decided first on the list is a really good quality make up bag.

Also wondering about storage, not sure what though.
