Ok so have I done the right thing about my moustache?

I have just made an appointment to have my top lip waxed for the first time. It is not noticeable in soft light but in the car mirror it is terrible, and when my OH is talking to me he stares at it. I am not suitable for laser treatment as it is mostly fair hair, but there is just a fair bit of it.

The therapist told me that its really very popular! Is it really? Of those of you that do it tell me about it please........I'm imagining growing a beard in my 60's or something worse happening if I start doing this now.......

I wax my own (am trained as a beauty theapist) it's suprising how many women have it done. The first time I did my friend she was wincing just before I did it, was imagining all kinds of pain, I whipped the first bit off and she was really suprised at how not as painful as she thought.

I need to do mine desperately, I will do mine tomorrow. You'll be glad once its done and you wont be able to stop rubbing your tongue over it as it will feel so silky smooth . You will be glad, promise.

BTW you will not grow a beard.

I wax my own but I'm not a beauty therapist. TBH the Veet small strips are an absolute doddle: warm them in your hand, stick them on, whip them off and bob's your uncle. I wouldn't pay to have it done, though I would/do for my legs cos that is much more difficult to do yourself...

lizandlulu · 08/06/2008 17:25

i have mine done. the hair doesnt grow back thicker or anything. i think it gets weaker liek it would on your legs if you waxed them enogugh.
it does hurt me though. it is a running joke with my beautician cause tears are running down my face.
i also have my chin and eyebrows done at the same time.

Whitty · 08/06/2008 20:16

How long does it stay red for etc, I don't really want my face to say 'HEY LOOK I WAXED MY TASH TODAY, ASK ME ABOUT IT'......

I get mine threaded which is AMAZING. I didn't even know I had a hair problem there til the lovely lady asked if I wanted my moustache off as well as my eyebrows!

Much less painful than waxing.

bonniefromboot · 08/06/2008 20:19

Hi Whitty
First time I did it I got red mark...
Got some differrent ones and made sure I used the wet wipe thingy afterwards and it was ok.
However, would make sure I do it in the evening so you have all night for the redness to go away

ShinyPinkShoes · 08/06/2008 20:27

What's 'threading' ?

GordontheGopher · 08/06/2008 20:29

This.

ShinyPinkShoes · 08/06/2008 20:34

Ooooh that looks like a good and gentle method

GordontheGopher · 08/06/2008 20:36

It's great. You just need to find an Indian salon who does it. It's also LOADS cheaper. She does my eyebrows and lips for a fiver!

Whitty · 08/06/2008 20:47

So the redness does go away really really after a few hours? And is it really THAT common? Therapist said loads have it done, but wasn't sure if she was using some clever tactic to convince me...!

my redness stays for a couple of hours, but thats it. and it feels redder and more 'throbby' than it looks!

Mamazon · 09/06/2008 10:29

i second threading.
I have very dark hair and so my top lip can be noticable at times.

my local Asian dress shop has a lady with a mini salon at the back. she charges a tenner for my entire face (eyebrow's top lip, side burns, any odd hairs on my chin etc)

i didn't even notice that i had hair on the rest of my face but when she takes it all off my face looks cleaner, lighter and much smoother.
Its like having a chemical peel or something.

Oh and it is MUCH less painfull than waxing and a lot quicker than plucking

MintyandTink · 09/06/2008 10:30

i prefer waxing.

When threading i feel every single pulling of hair. While waxing it is just a three or four moments of pain while they pull the waxed cotton.

In theory threading sounds amazing but not that happy with the results anyhow.

Ah, also different people have different levels of tolerance to pain.

Waxing is made for me!
