Is there any benefit from switching from a home gel nail kit to nail wraps?

Please help me to understand this.

I do my own gel nails at home. I use a peel-off base coat, so there’s no annoying soaking off. It takes me about 25 mins to do my nails and they last 10-14 days.

i keep reading about nail wraps and trying to understand if i would benefit from them.

At first i thought it would be good to avoid using a lamp, or maybe they would save me time, but then i read that to get up to two weeks out of nail wraps you need to either use a gel wrap and a lamp or a normal wrap and seal with top coat which takes time to dry.

i like trying new things so was tempted by these but I’m finding it difficult to understand how I might benefit from them.

am I missing something?

There possibly aren’t m/any benefits for you in terms of application. But I use CND Vinylux top coat and it dries fully within a couple of minutes…and I do two coats.

One thing to watch out for if doing at home are potential allergies to the gels. Even if you can apply really well, unless you’re using a branded polish and its corresponding lamp there’s no way to be sure it’s fully cured (even if it feels hard).

I’ve just posted this pic on another thread. These are my nails wearing polish wraps after 10 days wear. Obviously there’s some growth but they’ve been brilliant.

I’ve been wearing wraps for about 2 years, i can get 2 weeks from a set using normal topcoat, i use CND Vinylux, i do one coat on application day and another a week later.
I love that they remove using normal nail polish remover, mine are really cheap so tend to change them weekly.
When i go on holiday i do use a gel topcoat to protect from suncream.
This set has been on a week so far.

Thank you. That’s a really helpful response. I’ve been doing my own gel nails at home for 12 years and haven’t had any problems in that time - I do them every two weeks.

can I ask which ones you use, if you don’t mind? Do they require a lamp at all?

If not, they may be a good option for my tween who occasionally asks for gel nails (but she’s only 12 so I’m not keen on this), and possibly for taking on longer holidays. Thanks!

The ones I use don’t need a lamp. Most places that sell wraps have ‘normal’ polish options that don’t need curing, which is what I use. And they also often sell ‘semi cured gel’ ones that need curing and I believe a UV top coat. They will be labelled accordingly on the websites though. I’d definitely use the normal ones on your daughter.

Lots of places do all sorts of patterns and things, but I prefer solid colours or french tips.

I’ve used:

(the ones in my picture are their Vixen).

I’ve also used Lily and Fox but they ship from Australia and take a while to come and they’ve been doing something with their website which I think means they come from the US now so I haven’t ordered since then. As well as the fact that they don’t seem to have as much choice as they used to.

Then there’s Holy Grail Nails but I think they’re a bit more expensive.
