Workwear? Tech industry

This is possibly the most open question but what the hell are people wearing to work these days??!

I’ve been working predominantly from home for the last few years, and so on the infrequent occasions I’ve been in an office, I’ve been able to rely on a handful of trusted outfits. But now… I’ve got a new job and I’ll be out & about a lot more. I want to invest in a new wardrobe.

The industry is tech, and so not overly formal. When I used to be out previously, there were a lot of (eg) long dresses with trainers, or smart-ish jeans with jersey blazers - again, trainers seemed the go-to. Is this still the ‘norm’?

Whet are you all wearing when you want to be smart, modern, but not suited?

Smart casual. Unless you work in Dev, in which case it’s all black and an oversized hoodie you can quickly pull down if someone turns on the lights or opens a blind.

I work in tech. It’s barely even smart casual tbh. Nothing totally outrageous but primarily people are all in jeans, trainers and sweaters.

I wear casual dresses with trainers or flat boots, or jeans and a work branded t-shirt or hoodie - usually when I’m doing some kind of event. I think I’ve seen one person once in heels and they were going out straight after work. I quite like smart workwear but I’d feel a bit out of place if I wore it.

Also in tech - tbh you could rock up in joggers and noone would bat an eyelid.

I wear some form of jeans and a jumper most days, basically same as if I was wfh.

Any difference if you’re in the City? Or client facing??

Definitely no difference in the city I work between two offices both in the city. tech is tech.

customer facing may be different but it depends what kind of customers they are…
