Laser hair removal - what to look for in a clinic?

Hi ! A few years ago I had laser hair removal at a beauty clinic which is part of a major chain and is based in a city about an hour's drive away. I live in a small market town in the south west. Now a beautician clinic in my home town is offering laser hair removal, which would be much more convenient for me. My question is, will this be the same quality? Are all laser hair removal machines/staff more or less the same? Or should I stick with the major chain and travel to my nearish city? What should I be looking for at a laser hair removal clinic? Thanks!

I really need to know this too! I want to finally deal with my chin hairs. Did it hurt though?

Here's my experience so far; I had a 'block' of about eight sessions five years ago on upper lip and chin. Sadly it was during covid, which meant I had to have long breaks between the eight sessions, and may mean they were less effective than they might have been. However... It was still fantastic and worth every penny! It zapped the particularly thick annoying black hairs, the ones which used to defy tweezers. They've gone forever. And that made a huge difference. Now, five years on, I need to wax lip and chin every few weeks, but hairs are much finer than they were. But I'm also seeing some regrowth (sideburns) which is probably hormonal (I'm in my early 50s) so I think it's time for another course. In terms of pain, no not too bad, totally 'bearable'. On a small area it's very quick, it's quite intense, but 'on a par' with waxing. I imagine doing a big area like legs might feel more painful, because it takes more time. The other thing I worried about was not being able to wax between sessions. But after about two sessions I noticed a massive difference in the coarsest hairs, so that became less of a bother. And I bought a 'finishing touch flawless' battery powered hair remover thingy which I used between sessions and worked well. all in al - go for it! My only regret is not doing it sooner....

I’m not sure about the quality of the machines, but the skill of the technician really matters. I had several sessions with one person, which went well. A few years later, I went to new person and she left me with redness and burns. It didn’t scar, thankfully. It didn’t hurt with the first technician, but really did with the second.
So, get someone experienced, read reviews and get personal recommendations, if possible.

yes, I think you're right. The clinic I went to previously were very 'hot' on safety. eg they turned me away a couple of times because they thought I'd had too much sun exposure. I appreciated this. So, am wary about a 'new, smaller indepcendent clinic being less strict about this
