lowlights into existing blonde - can it be done?

Naturally a mousey dark blonde with a moderate amount of grey (late 40s). Have had my hair highlighted for years, but increasingly my hairdresser seems unable to achieve the sandy blonde balayage effect I'm after - see attached image here -

Trouble is, whenever I've asked to get this contrasting effect and they've added lowlights together with the blonde, the lowlights end up going orangey/red quite quickly, which I hate! I like the roots being quite dark, I think it actually works better with my skin tone than it being really blonde all over.

All I really want is for the low light colour to match my natural darker colour and ideally for the greys to be covered. I've given up in recent years and just had highlights but it's starting to look quite blocky now.

Any ideas how this can be done, or what I should be asking for? Thanks x

Anyone? The picture isn't showing, but hopefully people understand what I mean?!

Ashy dark blonde lowlights sound like they would work well for you, but do you know what she has used previously that has turned orangey?

@SucksToBeYou - thank you. I am not sure but it seems to happen whenever hairdressers attempt to add anything other than bleach to my hair.

If anyone can explain why this happens or how to avoid it, I’d really appreciate it!
