Wool/natural Fibre jumper - recommendations

Any recommendations for 100% wool knitwear? Is uniqlo good?
I can no longer afford Toast which was my go to previously. Children and job change means I'm more of a supermarket budget now but I can't wear polyester/acrylic etc as they don't breathe on me.
Any ideas very much appreciated

Try Woolovers

Look for handknit Icelandic yolk on Vinted , you can usually pick one up for £30-40 they are very toast like .

I really like Uniqlo but the range isn’t huge. They do merino wool, lambswool and cashmere jumpers in loads of different colours but they are all plain and the range doesn’t change over the years. I find the quality good and they are not expensive.

Men's jumpers from M&S, especially the 100% lambswool ones.

Freda69 · 01/11/2025 14:29

Woolovers and House of Bruar - probably not fashionable but good for Aran, Guernsey etc

Agree with this. I’ve just got a brand new teal colour one from Vinted for £10 and it’s much better than the women’s.
For information I usually take a size 12 top in M & S and a men’s small is perfect.

Community Clothing - not quite supermarket budget, but not Toast either.
Vintage St Michael on eBay or Vinted.
Rapanui if you want cotton knits.

Watchwatchmymysteedsteedgogofarfar · 01/11/2025 17:23

Thanks! I will. Check out community clothing and the men's in m and s.
Ah I had a vintage st Michael's suit before!

i found Woolovers a bit hit and miss.
Celtic Clothing wool sweaters last well and M&S currently have a good range of wool sweaters.

Their "loads of different colours" are nearly all very muted and sludgy. I wish they did some brighter colours for us jewel winters.

I have to say that the fine merino jumpers are brilliant and wash well.

This.

Also TK Maxx. I got cashmere and wool jumpers there last weekend.

If you’re buying new as opposed to pre-owned,

Community Clothing

will absolutely be the best value for your money. Definitely not supermarket prices. Small selection of very plain but weighty items, ethically made and sold.

Thanks - good tip on the quality and washing well.
Fortunately, I like muted and sludgey! Although maybe I should try some more colour. I've got quite sallow olive skin and dark circles Grin

I would rather buy new. I have slightly excessive sweat (sorry tmi!!) and knowing that an item of clothing I buy may have come from someone with the same problem as me puts me off a bit.
This is why I must wear wool as polyester and acrylic just ends up smelling horrible after a few washes. I recently tried the airyarn from m and s, beautiful bargain knitwear that I have worn a handful of times but now ruined.

Try spraying the armpits of your synthetic jumpers with distilled white vinegar, letting it soak in for 15 minutes, then washing as usual. The vinegar will break down the sweat odour. Your jumper won't smell like a chip shop I promise!

I've saved various items of synthetic clothing that way.
