I'm positive there's nothing stylish about this, but lightweight waterproofs

Dp is taking away for a long weekend at the end of November, to The Algarve.

I'm thinking that I should pack a waterproof jacket just in case (but I really, really hope I don't need it), and anybody recommed a lightweight, not hideous and not expensive one please?

Furry limed converse in the Algarve. Slightly odd as it won’t be cold. Definitely take leather trainers.

How short are you? I’m 5’3”. Are the arms not way too long?

Looking at a photo of me wearing it, looks like I folded the arms up 2 inches - I'm 5'2". The waist sits in roughly the right place on me though. Obviously a better recommendation for taller folks though!

Mac in a sac = I keep one in my motorbike top box as they pack away to almost nothing, yet keep a total deluge out. You want the Origin version - I like them because they're longer at the back (for sitting down on bike) and roomy enough but do not look frumpy IMHO. Come in masses of colours. Waterproof. Breathable, taped seams, has a fold away hood for use off the bike, decent zip, pockets, arms are long enough. Cannot fault them.

I’ve got a Joules Holkham and it’s really practical. Light, waterproof, reasonably warm, folds into itself. Only £69.

Joules Holkham

Thanks - I really like the Navy Bird Floral version!

I bought this lightweight berghaus jacket for summer walking and it is great - packs down to very little space and keeps me dry when it rains. Because it's a summer jacket and we're now in the winter, it seems to be on sale at a really reasonable price in some colours .www.berghaus.com/women-s-deluge-pro-3.0-waterproof-jacket-red/16622896.html

i've got this rains coat and i absolutely love it - so dramatic but also practical and very lightweight. i'm 167cm tall and it is pretty much ankle length on me but that's what i like about it, keeps my legs dry too. and it's got a hood. plus the adjustable gathers on the waist adapt to whatever i'm wearing underneath

Further North I know but we are currently in Porto and it rained on Friday - it was absolutely biblical. Somerhing more than a light jacket and canvas trainers was needed.

I can't emphasise the monsoon quality of Portuguese rain enough. When we moved here from SW UK a few years ago we had to rethink our entire rainwear strategy. It never drizzles for a whole day, it's seldom really cold, it buckets down for half an hour or so, stops and the sun comes out or it at least brightens up.

People are always amazed when I point out that Portugal gets more rain in a year than the UK, even though it rarely rains May to October. And we still have 300+ days of sunshine.
That's a shit load of rain compressed into shortish spurts November to April.

November to May, ALWAYS carry a brolly, NEVER wear fabric shoes.

Thank you so much for the insights into the weather! I won't be taking my Converse.... they're the Move Ox which has a chunky sole, and they are just so comfortable. But I'll take proper trainers instead, I think I'll mainly be wearing them during the day and then something a bit nicer in the evening.

Lots of raincoats to look at! I like the Joules Holkham, and it would actually be pretty useful as I have 3 dogs and my current waterproof is a bit past it. And the Protected Species parka is just gorgeous, absolutely my kind of style.

I'll definitely pack a brolly!
