Is it any good ?
Or is it a con ?

It's MLM. However someone who sells it once gave me a shampoo bar for Christmas and it made my hair gorgeous. I often think I should buy another but then my anti-MLM head comes in to play!

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/10/2025 23:24

Just to add I only used it as I was going on holiday and it was hair and body - was the time just after lockdown with restrictions on liquids. My hair was bloody amazing all holiday. Have never bought one - although this thread has tempted me!

Housewife2010 · 30/10/2025 23:28

You can buy it straight from the website. I've liked everything I've tried.

YouOKHun · 31/10/2025 01:26

MLM. I wonder about the ethics of a company that targets women with overpriced product and expects them to monitise their friends and family and exploits the employment vulnerabilities of women to save themselves a wage bill. The products may or may not be good but it’s a con in the wider sense.

BretonStripe · 31/10/2025 01:33

I don't think they are a true MLM. I know of a local consultant who said there are no big costs to start, no pressure to sell and no downline recruitment etc. She's a vet and does it to subsidise her income and because she's passionate about the products and ethos. She's met Susie Ma and said she is lovely and genuine.

Ohgoonthenanotheronefortheroad · 31/10/2025 01:36

I love the products. Have tried finding cheaper alternatives that I like just as much (as teenager daughter goes through products like nothing else) and keep finding myself coming back to Tropic. It's ideal for our sensitive skin and the products are genuinely lovely. The only thing I can't stand is the way some of the 'sellers' go on about it 🙈

There is a start to cost. My friend paid over £150 for the start up kit. Having said that, she wasn't pressurised to recruit others, unlike other MLMs and, crucially, the products we tried from her were all lovely.

tanstaafl · 31/10/2025 08:45

They’re so lovely, but let’s not sell them in y’know, shops ?

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 31/10/2025 08:47

I have used Tropic in the past and loved a few of their products and make up. But it’s just so expensive

Exactly, why sell ethical products in an unethical way?

Family143 · 31/10/2025 09:58

I don't sell it but I do use it and I have friends who sell it and they say there is no pressure for sales or to recruit.
Those commenting on how unethical the sale model is, have you read the article?

YouOKHun · 31/10/2025 11:41

@Family143yes, I read that article when it came out (and the previous article about Tropic). The articles about MLM from Talented Ladies Club are always excellent. However I can’t work out why my burner account on Facebook has fairly regular messages from Tropic sellers asking if I’m interested in selling it too.

For an allegedly flat organisation with presumably low staffing costs etc I can’t work out why it’s so expensive. Tropic is in no way the worst offender but I am not convinced that it can completely distance itself from other MLM.

I will always question the motivation for using the MLM business model and why it almost always targets women. I think MLM pretends to be a friend, offering camaraderie, opportunity, flexibility but really it’s just another way women are penalised for giving birth. Can Tropic sellers make a consistent wage equating to the NMW if they choose or is that impossible? Or is it a way to earn small inconsistent amounts of money propped up by another income? I’m not attacking people selling Tropic but I do question whether the choice to use the MLM business model is to provide a flexible opportunity for women or to harness a cheap as chips workforce/customer base and how much of a favour that is doing women in the wider sense.

Sumsan · 17/04/2026 12:15

I have nothing bad to say about Tropic, it’s transformed my skin!

Flickitspinittwistitbopit · 17/04/2026 12:36

Just realised this is an old thread but I agree it's great stuff. I haven't personally tried any of the shampoo or skincare so don't know about that but I do use the suncream which is great...

A bit confused about the MLM thing as I just ordered mine from the website 😵‍💫 it's it's expensive but you have to pay for any decent brand these days? 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s because you can sign up to be an ambassador which I did after literally loving the products so much! But you don’t have to order through ambassador’s you can go straight through the website! I think as soon as someone mentions MLM every body automatically thinks the products are bad or it’s some kind of scam but the products really are great!

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 17/04/2026 14:35

Not tried much of the skincare, but went for a spa day where they used tropic oil for massage and I came away with a lumping great headache.

YouOKHun · 17/04/2026 20:39

@Sumsanthe products aren’t necessarily the key focus of critics of the MLM business model. The problem is that there is a benefit to “building a team” in Tropic whatever Ma says. Once that exists as the way to really make money then some really doubtful selling of the business opportunity happens. There must be this problem in Tropic whatever Susie Ma claims as there are plenty of Tropic Huns pestering people to sign up. The claims of career style incomes and “replacing a full time income” are a plenty. This is a problem because it’s deeply misleading.

Not all MLM products are terrible though they are nearly always overpriced. I question why anyone would decide that the MLM model is a good way to go. It’s certainly not for the altruistic reasons Susie Ma states. Tropic certainly isn’t the worst, but it’s still iffy and you can’t measure a scam by whether a face cream is nice or not - the products are not the measure to use.

Nowvoyager99 · 17/04/2026 20:52

Their eyeliner is the only one I have found that doesn’t smudge. It’s perfect.

Sumsan · 18/04/2026 09:16

@YouOKHun
I totally get your feelings and opinion! I know a lot of MLMs do focus heavily on recruiting, and it can come across very in your face. That’s actually something I was wary of too before I joined! For me, it’s been really different. I mainly signed up because I genuinely love the products and wanted the discount, and there’s never been any pressure to recruit or buy loads of stock. I just share things I use anyway, and if people are interested, that’s fab, if not, that’s completely ok too.
I respect that it’s not everyone’s thing though 😊

LilyBunch25 · 18/04/2026 09:21

I love the elixir oil and wouldn't be without it, but I have to budget for it.

Sumsan · 18/04/2026 09:48

@LilyBunch25 one of the products I couldn’t be without, I struggled sooo badly with my skin for over 10 years! Terrible acne then scarring which Elixir has helped so much!

RandomMess · 18/04/2026 09:53

Launching a new product into retail shops is horrifically expensive and a barrier to any new company.

I can’t comment on the MLM aspect or the products tbh but I can see why the founder couldn’t afford to go into retail outlets.

Can you PLEASE help me then? I joined as an ambassador and have the kit but can't find where to place personal orders for the 25% discount ANYWHERE. Neither can Google or AI. It's really made me start to doubt how ethical it really is making it this hard.

Charlottapannacotta · 18/04/2026 20:36

My “ambassador” doesn’t push it at all and I just order as and when I fancy it. I love their deodorant
