Make up for dd 13

My daughter (13) and has asked me to buy some simple make-up for her today. I’m in a city, so I have access to shops like Boots, Superdrug and Space NK.
What simple, maybe even natural (though that’s not essential) make-up would people recommend? Something like an eyeshadow palette and maybe a blush. She has also asked for brown mascara.

Superdrug would be a good visit. Stands like Nyx or Elf would be worth a look. P Louise and Bperfect are also very popular from TikTok.

Depending on budget I'd look at some basic skincare too so she learns both. No point I make up if she doesn't know how to clean her skin to take it off. She may already have that though.

A voucher might work so she can shop herself?

Brushes id look at real techniques.

I’d go to Boots and shop the Elf collection or Revolution. Lots of fun items in those ranges for kids.

Tcateh · 30/10/2025 13:03

Revolution?

JadziaD · 30/10/2025 13:05

Has she never experimented with make up before? Why does she want some now? If she's asking, does she not have some ideas of what she would like? I don't think this is something you'd necessarily do completely by yourself without her input but ifyou're just doing a little test then I'd suggest:

Yes to brown mascara (elf does good ones at reasonable proces)
Maybe one large or a couple of smaller eye palettes for her to experiment with. Ensure at least one or two shimmer shades and one or two shades that "pop" but mostly fairly neutral etc.
A nice lip gloss or lip oil is generally well received.

Blus is difficult to buy without th eperson being present. Elf and Revolution both do a nice range at good prices though when she comes with you.

Dd is a similar age and rates Revolution (and glossier but that's harder to get hold of).

HairsprayBabe · 30/10/2025 13:27

echoing revolution and nyx - also Boots natural collection, and collection - used to be collection 2000 and the superdrug MUA brand

I would do a blush palette Revolution Ultra Blush Palette Sunset Burst 12.8g - Boots like this one so she can experiment - it comes in a few shades if this is too dark

This for eyeshadow Revolution Re-loaded Palette Affection - Boots again it comes in a bunch of colours if she wants something louder

I only wear brown mascara and like this one for a budget option MUA Volume Mascara - Brown | Make Up | Superdrug

I still buy all of these and I'm 33 - I still think I'm 13 ha! I have moved on from dream matte mousse though

Revolution Re-loaded Palette Affection - Boots

Boots Natural Collection

Thank you all. I went to Superdrug and got her a cheap and cheerful natural eye shadow palette as advised by the shop assistant who was super helpful and knowledgeable. Dd isn't very interested in make up generally but occasionally uses lip gloss or balm. She has the bubble skin care range but only uses it every so often. I'll share the recommendations from this thread with her so she can have a look for herself too.

The Superdrug staff ARE always helpful aren't they? And they all seem to love make up and have lots of good advice. It's clearly something they are good at when hiring and training people, even though they all look about 18 in my local store! Grin
