Help! Orthopaedic boot for fancy family event in Asia next month

Hi everyone,
I’ve managed to break my leg and will still be in an orthopaedic boot for a major family event next month (provided I will be cleared to fly). It will be outdoors in Asia in the evening, probably around 16–20 degrees. My family is big on taking photos so I expect there will be a lot of those.
I’m in my mid-30s, 5' 4 and a curvy size 14 (classic pear with wide hips and thighs). I haven’t been able to exercise for a month and a half so I’m feeling pretty awful about my body at the moment. My shoulders and arms are fine, so I don’t mind showing those.

Ideally I’d like a midi (or ankle) length dress so it doesn’t interfere with the boot, and something A-line or full skirted so it skims the hips. Most people at the event will wear Indian clothes but I can’t quite handle that right now but would ideally like something that looks festive and attractive, maybe even leaning into some Asian design elements. Nothing too heavy or fussy though since I expect my mobility will still be limited and I may need crutches. I was thinking jewel tones and / or silk or velvet but nothing is jumping out to me.

I’m not too worried about budget – I’d spend up to around £1,000 for the perfect piece if I could get more wear out of it afterwards, but I’m equally happy to go cheaper if it looks good and is well-made.

Has anyone bought from Club L London? Their dresses look nice online but the reviews seem all over the place. Would love to hear if the quality is actually any good.

Thanks in advance – I’m feeling a bit low about it all and trying to figure out how to navigate this.

I have not bought from them, but a quick scope of their wedding guest section looks as though they are very much floor length evening gown type dresses, which I wasn't sure was what you were wanting?

I think you have to remember that it won't be just the boot itself that affects what works, but how you move in it. I think a very formal dress - even midi - won't work if you are clomping about, not gliding elegantly. dresses tend to look best for formal worn with heels, which isn't going to work.

I'd just be pragmatic about your situation and maybe go for a nice formal pantsuit or formal floaty trousers and a beautiful top that shows you have made an effort within the constraints of your injury?

Ultimately people will realise you have a boot and will be sympathetic/non judgmental about your look on the day. I wouldn't worry too much - but I do think a formal elegant dress will draw attention to the fact you are not moving elegantly.

This was the dress I was looking at: https://clubllondon.com/products/francisca-berry-velvet-strappy-volume-hem-midi-dress-cl135425037?variant=42177296039978&currency=GBP&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google%2Bshopping&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23148500531&gbraid=0AAAAADCHewIqrjycRD3OZXre05jmhrUJg&gclid=CjwKCAjw04HIBhB8EiwA8jGNbRYPA1NlT6SKj9xaTZQP5h7-eRYWAGQesbJEbrmHwFaQwuJOzedrZBoC9hcQAvD_BwE

Not a trousers person at the best of times.

That’s lovely though not sure where you are based, I would look at the fusion type dresses you find in Indian clothing boutiques, in Leicester they had amazing designs which were as easy to put on as standard western clothing but more embellished and brighter designs, I’ve loved them but feel self conscious at British events but if others are in saris I would definitely opt for something from one of those shops

I am in London but not really in a position to go shopping in person (due to the broken leg...).

That's really lovely but to me the boot will impede the feminine movement a dress like that requires.

But it is a nice dress.

Calliopespa · 28/10/2025 15:21

I also think it really calls for a heel.

I think this direction could work too op. It would also allow for flat shoes/boot better.

I understand these are not your go-to looks but I think maybe this one time you need a bit of a re-think.

Maybe take a look at Raishma dresses?
