Am I missing something? Everyone is wearing something oud-y!
I have fomo, but I don't like it at the same time!

It's overpowering - can smell it a mile off!

savegaza · 27/10/2025 16:05

I didn’t even know it was something that’s become popular. I’m married to a south Asian man and it’s always been popular amongst ethnic minorities. I hadn’t realised it had become a thing in general. I personally love the stuff. It lasts all day.

It depends on the oudh. Some is very strong and heavy (horrible) and other types are lighter and give depth and longevity to a fragrance without being overpowering.

My favourite fragrance with oudh is Scherzo by Miller Harris.

Westfacing · 27/10/2025 16:15

It lasts all day.

That's an understatement!

A senior Saudi princess I was nursing took to spritzing me with her Oud-y perfume saying 'Sister, this is very nice - last two weeks!

I'm not sure how long it actually lasted but it was in my brain for days! 😂

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 27/10/2025 16:16

I hate oud. It plays havoc with my migraines

ibuprofenhead · 27/10/2025 16:18

you have fomo about a frangrace note? Sniff some perfumes to find one you like OP instead of trying to force something you don’t like. Better to be a trend setter than a sheep 😉

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 27/10/2025 16:21

I like it but then I used to wear patchouli all the time when I was younger too😀

ahoyshipmate · 27/10/2025 16:25

Is Jo Malone myrrh and tonka an out? How do you know what is and isn’t one?

BluntPlumHam · 27/10/2025 16:28

Less is more and it should be used in the cooler months. Western brands like Jo Malone and Tim Ford and Dior etc have made it too mainstream to the it’s own detriment unfortunately.

IDontHateRainbows · 27/10/2025 18:21

It gives perfume depth but it totally depends what its blended with, this is where the art of perfumery comes in, it can be gorgeous or horrible depending on the mix. I love it with rose and I dont usually like rose. Its more a mixing note than one that works in isolation in my opinion.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 27/10/2025 18:26

B&M are selling Oud everything at the monent . A whole end of shelf full.of stuff . I bought washing machine pods and Oud fabric fresher. I sprayed it on the car seats .. didnt linger at all . Havent tried the washing nachine pods yet

Shmithecat2 · 27/10/2025 18:29

It's lovely when its decent not cheap. I lived in Saudi for a while so it was always in the air. I'm keen on heavy/heady scents though.

LindorDoubleChoc · 27/10/2025 18:29

Love patchouli, detest oud.

MotherWol · 27/10/2025 18:34

I assumed it had grown in popularity among the high end perfume houses because they wanted to appeal more to the Emirati market, and where the designer brands go, the high street inevitably follows. Personally I find it can be too strong/high projecting although I’m sure there are fragrances that use it subtly!

JDM625 · 27/10/2025 18:50

I lived in the middle east for a while as a child and it smelt extremely overpowering and lingered in the room someone had been in. Its not a fragrance I've searched out as an adult, but possibly a toned down version mixed with floral I might like.

Bayliss and Harding do a handwash 'Oud, cedar and amber' which I really like and isn't too overpowering.

hattie43 · 27/10/2025 18:55

I don’t like Oud at all . Just too strong .

FullOfMomsense · 27/10/2025 19:38

It smells so good for so long. I don't have patience for people who don't like perfume, so I put on extra

NokiaRock · 27/10/2025 19:52

It has dominated Western perfumery for the last five years or so, along with other Middle Eastern scent profiles like saffron and heavy rose.

It’s a fashion, it will pass.

Personally, I don’t like it. Even smooth, non-barnyardy ouds stick in my throat and have a sickly, choking effect on me. I really, really hate oud on men, who always seem to overdo it so that you can’t breathe if you stand within five feet of them. Ick.

NokiaRock · 27/10/2025 19:52

I love perfume, by the way!

Blondiney · 27/10/2025 19:55

Agree OP, it's often unpleasant. If you want a gentle, 'pretty' oud, try Guerlain's Oud Nude.

Liverlybunchofcoconuts · 27/10/2025 19:55

There’s a certain men’s fragrance and it gives me an instant headache. Must be a popular one as I smell it constantly

octoverwhelmed · 27/10/2025 20:03

What’s a barnyard oud?

Flomingho · 27/10/2025 20:05

I personally love oud. Similar smell to incense sticks which I really like.

IDontHateRainbows · 27/10/2025 20:22

Smells like shit. Fecal oud is a thing
