Mercadona/spanish buys

I'm in the canaries for a few days and wondered if anyone could recommend any bargain beauty buys? Im near a decent sized Mercadona, and have heard their skincare can be good, but no idea what. There's also the usual Fundo Groupo (? Yellow elephant!!) shop nearby too.

Thanks

dragon blood moisturiser from Mercadona is really good.

Alycie · 21/10/2025 15:28

I like their blushes. The pink shiny blush in powder has great reviews. The lip pencils have a following too, specially colour nr 2.

LouScot · 21/10/2025 15:57

Thanks @notnorman @Alycie I will investigate both.

I've just discovered Fussion body cream and oil. €3. Totally lush imo. I've brought some home with me.

Gadzilla · 21/10/2025 18:19

OP, do you have access to a Carrefour or a Lidl?

BaronessBomburst · 21/10/2025 18:57

They have a range of Tom Ford dupes, which are really good. Also the almond and aloe vera moisturisers in the large pump dispenser bottles.
I like there mascaras too.
If I start on the food this will be a really long post, so I'll stop. 😂

BaronessBomburst · 21/10/2025 19:08

Àmbar is Oud Wood
Petals is Black Orchid

I can't upload a photo as it doesn't seem to be working. The bottles are white and square for the feminine fragrances, and dark brown and square for the men's range.
A lot of their other perfumes are dupes too and you can easily find a list with a bit of googling.

For those who have those shops near them in Spain, have you any recommendations for their products? I'll be over there soon. Thanks!

This doesn’t sound like what you’re looking for but their chilli and lime crisps are THE best crisps in the world!

Plump82 · 21/10/2025 19:24

The bubble hyaluronic acid sheer masks are great, especially cold out the fridge after a day in the sun.
The stuff from funde grube I don't think this is any cheaper than you get at home.

Color fix lipstick and Fluido mate gloss stay on forever

Countmeout · 21/10/2025 19:28

As @notnorman says the dragons blood. Still €5. I buy enough to do until my next visit. There’s a similar cream in a little pump for eyes and I got eye patches once (but haven’t bothered again as I found them a bit fiddly) came without my tweezers last time and they were really cheap. I also buy their toothbrushes which I really like. And the Portuguese tarts are 55p (where I live they’re £2 min)

Have you tried the Portuguese tarts from Consum too? Omg 😋 really inexpensive too

This illuminating blush is brilliant. It's supposed to be a Charlotte Tilbury dupe.

They used to do a massive tube of 100% aloe vera for 5 euro which was excellent.

LouScot · 21/10/2025 22:39

Ooo thanks all. I'm going on a spree tomorrow!! 🤪

100% Aloe Vera hand cream and aloe Vera gel in pump bottles.don’t buy it in the airports as it’s expensive. Just the normal cheap range is great! The hand creams were two tubes for like €2.50 and it’s great. The gel is great for post shaving, grazes etc. The brand for both is Tabaibaloe

they also do the cutest fruity carAir fresheners for like €1 each!

i stock up on all of the above when in canaries! Think I got everything from HyperDino supermarket

Dontsayyouloveme · 21/10/2025 23:12

Intrigued about the Dragons blood. That sounds like something that should be Googled with caution.

I'm having a little solo break in Spain in a couple of weeks and I may have planned a leisurely Mercadona browse into my trip.

Only tenously Style and Beauty but I always stock up on travel size hair spray and mousse there because it's much cheaper than Boots or anywhere else in the UK. I also got some nice refillable 100 ml bottles when the liquids ban came in that I'm still using years later.

Definitely not S&B but they have a really good selection of plastic tubs including reusable yogurt pot size and slightly bigger ones that are good for taking overnight oats to work or storing half a tin of beans or similar. We've now got about a dozen of each.

whirlyhead · 22/10/2025 07:43

I live in Spain and never shop in Mercadona as I find it totally rubbish! Lidl has some ok beauty products but I mainly stick to primor and Sephora. Primor has some great stuff.

Dontsayyouloveme · 22/10/2025 07:45

I thought Mercandona was Spain and HiperDino was Canaries?!

No haven't stumbled across a Consum. But will look for one now.

I think you now need a prescription for tret, in Spain too.

Countmeout · 22/10/2025 07:57

@whirlyhead yes Primor has great stuff too. I got a great under eye thing last time. And super wee children’s bits and bobs.
