Heavy rain today, and reminded me I still need to sort out footwear!

Hi all, I just wondered as day to day shoes, what people are wearing. Because unless you wear some sort of wellie, or a casual boot or trainer that says it is waterproof.
I assume others are like myself, in that the rain goes through the top or sole of my shoes.

But ankle wellies for example, which I have owned before would not be wearable all day.
So I’m considering buying some trainers that say they are waterproof.
Though they were always not very nice looking to me, usually relate them to hiking etc 😃 or they now seem to do some but aimed at those who run.

So just wondering what others have got or do when they are out for the day and it’s wet.
Thanks!

I love brogues but know they aren’t for everyone.

Doggymummar · 21/10/2025 16:53

I love my Ganni city boots, I have the green ones

Mairzydotes · 21/10/2025 16:55

I use dubbin on leather footwear and a waterproofing spray on trainers or suede. It makes all the difference in rainy weather.

I bought DM's because I thought they'd be waterproof. They are not! I currently have some asics running shoes which I wear into the office, but whilst they're waterproof, they don't seem to be windproof and my feet are freezing! I'm debating ordering a pair of these to try - which colour would go best with both black trousers and navy blue trousers?

Ah okay, yes i wasn’t sure if they were waterproof anyway.
Yes I have found that with some footwear, helps in one way, but not in another.

I think either of those in the pics are good. I think the pink detail will look okay with black or navy.

Ooh okay, I still think of M&S as good quality so I shall take a look at those, thankyou.

Properly outdoors or very bad weather in winter I have some nice hiking boots. Everyday wear I have Goretex Converse and MTE Vans. Also have some chunky leather lace up boots.

All sounds like great options you have there. Yes I think I will now have to buy things, or be looking at them saying Goretex. There are more options than years ago.

Chelsea type boot. My go to is Ariat ones. Not cheap but so comfortable, waterproof, look stylish with jeans or cord/denim skirt.

PloddingAlong21 · 26/10/2025 16:51

Geox amphibious range.

I got my son trainers for school (they can wear any colours for their PE days). My son is 8 and size 4. I’m a size 3.5. in days he wasn’t wearing them I kept popping them on. They’re SO comfy. Very very waterproof.

Subsequebtly ordered some women’s boots (these ones are pricy, but you can get good value geox from many different retailers) www.geox.com/en-GB/waterproof_ankle_boots-taupe-lamidie_grip_abx_woman-D46XMD00022C6029.html

Thankyou sounded good and I then took a look, not sure with me and boots, as it’s a bit like mr with slip on trainers and the fit. But they do look good, and well worth the price!

I wear black timberland a lot in winter with jeans. They cope in rain and snow well

Also have some warm lined leather boots from Fellhof for when I wear dresses or skirts. Super warm.

Both around £200 air not particularly cheap, but the timberlands are at least 15 years old. The fellhof boots about 5 years. Both still excellent

I find both quite tricky as I have very high arches - I'm eyeing up Ariat paddock boots as they have a zip.

They do a whole range in different styles - not just boots. Worth looking at.

From the moment it gets cold and wet in the autumn I rotate two pairs of Blundstones worn with wool socks. They’ve never got wet inside but would only protect against water up to ankle height.

Timberlands sound good! Did you buy them from Timberland directly?

OP posts:
Caspianberg · 27/10/2025 14:20

@Redruby2020 - yes from timberland directly. There used to be a store at Westfield to try on ( might still be)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/10/2025 16:19

Solovair boots
Blundstone boots
Fly London boots for smart

I keep them in good condition by polishing them and treating them with dubbin/nikwax etc.

mamagogo1 · 27/10/2025 16:24

I have knee high boots, Chelsea boots, dm’s merrel walking shoes and normal trainers which as waterproof or thereabouts plus winter boots (fur lined grippy wellies basically) for really cold weather. All work fine for normal commuting purposes, I have gortex walking boots which get an outing if looking particularly foul and needing to be outside for extended periods

RampantIvy · 27/10/2025 16:33

I have some smart leather trainers that are waterproof. In the winter I wear boots.

We're on holiday in southern Europe and it's poured today. I've been wearing sandals 😆
