Running leggings recommendations for a short, big-tummied jogger

Recently started "running" three times a week with a lovely bunch of ladies. Unfortunately I spend most of my lap around the park pulling up my leggings.
I'm built like a jacket potato on cocktail sticks. Muscular legs, big tummy.
So I need some leggings that will see me through winter runs (we run at 7am!) and stay up keeping my gut covered!
Any suggestions?

Try good brands like Lululemon and Sweat Beaty. I have very flattering sculpting pairs from both. Quite pricey but worth the extra. Sometimes available on sale/from outlet sales.

I’ve got sweaty Betty leggings and they are good but not as good at my H&M ones. Everything about them is better. They have two pockets instead of one, they have a higher waist and they are smoother.

I got some excellent ones from m and s last week. High waisted, sculpting, really hold everything in well and don’t droop

Snag have just launched running leggings in 3 variations. I got the email yesterday. They cater for all sizes and their regular ones always fit.

Ron Hill. Not as fashionable and sexy like LL or SB, but very sturdy and functional, but Ron Hill was a world champion libg distance runner and textiles chemist, so he knew a bit about running kit. Ron Hill women's running tights. If you google the style you like, you can usually find them cheaper than full price.

Women's Core Crop Tight | Ronhill

Comfortable, classic running tight in a crop length - great for cooler days or if you want full leg coverage and support.

I swear by Happy Stride. The only ones I’ve had that don’t roll down or ride up or blah blah blah.

Also consider some thermal lined ones for when winter begins to bite.

Sweaty Betty power leggings. Has to be power leggings. Buy on Vinted. New with tags. Any random print to get you going. Look for 7/8ths. They are shorter and work well on me at 5 foot 4.

And well done on running!!!!

if you want to spend a bit more the sweaty Betty winter leggings are brilliant. Not seen them on Vinted tho. I had some for my birthday. They are great.

Until it gets below 4 Celsius you should be absolutely fine in Decathlon's warm running tights. They have an absurdly high percentage of lycra, so they are quite compressive and are high-waisted, with a drawstring should additional security be required. The brushed lining keeps you warm.

I'll probably run in the Decathlon tights all winter, but for cycling (when windchill and long rides mean I get much colder) my vote goes to the Ron Hill winter technical tights, which are seriously thick and fleecy (and thus much less stretchy, you need to get the fit right).

I wear Karrimore running tights with a drawstring waist. Can get them on offer in Sports direct, and mine seem to wash well.

I'm barrel shaped, and leggings only stay up with a drawstring.

Hohofortherobbers · 19/10/2025 08:52

I gave higher state leggings (from sportshoe.com) super cheap, less than £10 a pair they're high waist and have a drawstring, as long as you have a drawstring on a cheap pair they'll stay up

I like sweaty Betty 7/8 because I’m short. I’m a bit overweight but they are quite generously sized so I wear a medium. They feel quite secure and I don’t need to hitch them up.

I wore my lululemons until 7 months pregnant so they work well for a tummy!
