Can anyone offer help or advice to a mum of 3 young children (under 4) who is nowhere close to fitting into her old clothes and is still in leggings and boring tops?

Can anyone recommend any “capsule” items that might make me look or feel more pulled together? I am tall and have been a size 8/10 all my adult life, so I’m also just struggling to find a way to look/feel good about myself in clothes now and have sort of given up. I feel healthy though so I’m focusing on that but need style advice! Currently about a size 14 and planning to breastfeed for the next year.

I gave birth to my 3rd child 2 months ago after a gruelling pregnancy with hyperemesis and a lot of weight gain as I just ate to keep the nausea at bay. Struggling with how dowdy I look and feel right now. I “bounced back” after my first two children but I’m nowhere near being able to fit my old clothes. I can’t really afford a whole new wardrobe and I wouldn’t know what to buy anyway, even if I had the time and headspace for it!

Cord pinafore dresses. You can wear leggings and whatever top/jumper you like underneath, they are easy to undo to pull up a top and feed in, skim your tummy but pull a t shirt and leggings outfit together.

How old are you?

I think with kids that young I would focus on wearing what is comfortable and practical but buying “better” versions of it to feel good. Like for example I’d make sure my leggings were the best fitting leggings I could buy (CRZ YOGA) are my favourites and maybe buy a really nice pair of trainers etc. at this time of year I think leggings and a jumper under a relatively smart coat (wool or a trench) can look pulled together but is very wearable and practical for day to day errands

Cord pinafore dress is a great idea

@NotFragileLikeAFlowerFragileLikeABomb I’m 36, and definitely out and about in all weather so I think you’re right. Do you have any recommendations for nice pairs of trainers?

Not particularly- I have a pair of running style Nikes that I like and find comfy - I find depending on what I’m doing I cycle between trainers and dr martens (leggings, docs and a jumper - either plain or statement) cover most eventualities for me!

I’ve attached some pics of simple outfits that give a good idea of what I’m describing (though I suspect we may have different styles, since I wouldn’t feel good in a cord dress but that it just personal preference)

I’ve a 1 year old and I’ve accepted that I can buy as many “nice” clothes as I want I don’t end up wearing them… anything that needs ironing is a no for a start! Have settled on dressing for the life I have (nursery run, WFH, Aldi, the odd coffee out etc) not the one I used to have! Lol 😁

I did not, in fact, manage to attach the images! Here they are
