Lightweight curl cream?

FiveCustardTarts · 14/10/2025 17:30

Any recommendations for a lightweight curl cream, please? I use curl gel when I can leave it to dry, but it’s horribly frizzy when blow dried. I tried mousse today and it’s less frizzy but a bit stringy looking.

I’m very grey under the dye, which probably isn’t helping with the frizz.

ideally it shouldn’t contain shea butter or smell too strongly of coconut. Or be ridiculously expensive.

Thank you!

Cheopo boots curl cream - little round tub of light pink stuff - is really popular with lots of different hair types.

FrenchBunionSoup · 14/10/2025 17:36

How are you blow drying it? Are you using a diffuser? If not, it wouldn't surprise me that it's frizzy!

Louisetopaz21 · 14/10/2025 17:40

As someone said before the cheaper one from boots is good I think less than £2 and more expensive from only curls is also good but about £18

This on s cool setting and when conditioning your hair combing out the tangles and scrunching in the conditioner into your curls before washing. My daughter has curly hair and takes over 1 hour from washing to drying. Using a light weight towel or t-shirt to dry stops the frizz.

This , scrunch it in then use a diffuser , bit of serum at the end to smooth

I use Curls Rock by Tigi on wet hair, use my fingers to twist into curls and leave to dry naturally if I can or diffuse with a hairdryer. Then scrunch the "cast" off - soft non frizzy defined curls. My hair texture is fine and my curl pattern is a 3B (although weirdly my grey hairs seem way less curly).

ThatGreenFawn · 14/10/2025 17:56

Merwave is amazing really makes my hair look good.

GreenSmithing · 14/10/2025 18:05

I know the Boots pink curl cream is a cult product, but I have fine hair and I find it quite drying and also that it makes my hair go crispy.

The John Frieda Frizz Ease Curl Defining Crème seems to work better for me at giving soft curls without frizz.

Curlsmith weightless air dry cream
Get it on a deal at Amazon
Lasts a reeeaallly long time
Don't use it near the scalp or you'll be greasy
Sound like you also need oil
I use Cantu Men's Beard and Hair oil
Only need a tiny bit and not wildly pricey as it doesn't have the tampon tax

Uricon2 · 14/10/2025 18:10

Another vote for the Boots pink curl cream. It's so cheap (unlike many decent curl products) that if it doesn't work for you you've lost little.

RoverReturn · 14/10/2025 18:16

Aussie curl cream. I use a small amount on wet hair.

FiveCustardTarts · 14/10/2025 18:19

Yes, I’m diffusing it but I probably need to do it on a cooler temp? I’ll try that. I definitely don’t have time in the morning for a long routine!

I tried the boots curl crème a very long time ago but it was a bit too thick. Worth trying again though as the texture of my hair has changed. I might give it a try then try the more expensive suggestions if that doesn’t work.

thanks all. 🙂

If you look in tkmaxx they often have loads of curly hair products at a reduced cost. We picked up some curlsmith products at the weekend

TheMimsy · 14/10/2025 18:31

I use Umberto Giani pink products - curl cream and their curl jelly.

I have very thick coarse curly grey hair and find it really good.

My hair with just a bit of curl cream or leave in conditioner is fluffy as hell by the end of the day and I normally have three days between washes at least.

I don’t normally bother drying my hair, just apply the two products whilst it’s still
dropping wet after shower. Let it air dry… then crunch.

if I blow dry - I use the pixie method if I can be arsed - otherwise I just blast roots and then down to the ends. I have a hairdryer that’s just a giant diffuser as I find it easier to
manage.

I don’t do the plopping or anything. I only ever finger comb. I’m just lazy..

TheMimsy · 14/10/2025 18:32

I second @Louisetopaz21 suggestion. TKMax for the win. I see the umberto stuff in their a lot and the bedhead range

Greenwriter76 · 14/10/2025 19:14

Insight products are probably the best I’ve used on my curls (& I’ve used a lot of different stuff), but they’re on the expensive side, though you can find them on Ebay etc.
I think if you found Boots pink curl cream too thick you may prefer a serum or an oil rather than a cream?
I’m currently using up Cantu curl cream (it’s relatively cheap but quite thick so you only need a bit, rubbed between hands) and I’ve just bought the Umberto Giannini pink gel which gives a good cast after washing that can be scrunched out.
I’d like to try some different serums and oils myself actually.

Pibrea · 14/10/2025 19:52

Living proof

24HoursFromTulseHill · 14/10/2025 19:55

I use Lush Curl Power leave I curl cream on soaking wet hair.
Co.e out the shower, combs with a wide tooth comb, flip my hair upside down and rake some through the ends and mid length.

Then flip back up and scrunch some of the Umberto Gianni curl jelly in

Either leave to air dry or leave for 20 / 30mins so the curls can form and then use a diffuser to get it to 80% dry and let it air dry to finish.

When using a diffuser, hover around for a few mins first, to help the gel to set and then cup the hair in the diffuser bowl to dry. Try to do each section for a good 20/30 seconds rather than moving around too much.

Saltnchilli · 14/10/2025 19:55

I have naturally curly hair and after years of trail and error I found my product. Only curls, the hydrating cream, scrunch into wet hair and perfect no frizzy curls.
Although I will try the boots one after these recommendations because it’s so much cheaper.

ItstheHRTpat · 14/10/2025 20:17

You could try thining the boots curl cream out a bit by diluting it with some water in an old spray bottle (in case it clogs it up - I use an old frylite bottle from years ago!) I do this with conditioner for quick touch ups when at work or on days out etc

Candypatthongworn · 14/10/2025 22:14

Aveda curl cream
pricey but a little goes a long way .
Also use the pink Boots curl cream but agree it can overwhelm finer curls
Another current favourite is the Aussie curl cream .
Tried Wow curl spray and it was so disappointing .
