Is there such a thing as quality maternity clothes?

Feel despondent looking at Maternity wear online. New Look, ASOS and H&M are the most cheapo possible polyester junk stuff, they practically catch fire when you walk. And of course it’s all black or grey.
If you know of a brand who does high quality not cheapo maternity clothes the pls shout. I know Beyond Nine is a thing but I need a front pouch for belly space, not just generally baggy. I am 39 so ultra tight bodycon ribbed stuff is er not for me.

Seraphine Maternity have really nice stuff.

Dinosaurland · 12/10/2025 16:25

I used maternity wear from JoJo, super comfortable and considering I carried twins it had plenty of space for them to grow I had the same pair all pregnancy

JC89 · 12/10/2025 16:50

Frugi has a few too although they are mainly for kids clothes (they do lovely bright kids clothes)

Wherethewildthings · 12/10/2025 17:13

The brands mentioned above are all good, and often available on vinted. I mostly just wore long line vests and the super soft stretchy Amazon leggings though.

CheeseWisely · 12/10/2025 17:21

Apart from a few basics from H&M & ASOS I got most of my maternity clothes from charity shops. Mostly Seraphine, Mamalicious & JoJo Maman. Some of the things I wore most were just regular clothes in a couple of sizes bigger. An oversized regular shirt with maternity leggings etc, and some wrap dresses that were 2 sizes up from my usual size. All just went back to the charity shop when I'd done with them.

Is Isabella Oliver still around?

ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit · 12/10/2025 17:34

I was going to say Isabella Oliver too.

HippeePrincess · 12/10/2025 17:38

Have a look on vinted, it’s hardly worn, expensive new but cheap second hand.

PeachCritic · 12/10/2025 18:04

Looks like Seraphine has gone bust. Some stuff on Vinted but a bit mumsy. Forgot about JoJo and will check out Isabella Oliver too, thanks

Next do a decent maternity range and also sell seraphine and other brands

Gudinne · 12/10/2025 19:35

I thought I'd read that next had taken over Seraphine. I liked Seraphine best but also had some nice bits from Isabella Oliver and a few Tiffany Rose dresses. Still wearing some of it now nearly five years post partum 😂

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 12/10/2025 19:36

I've been buying maternity clothes off Vinted recently. No stores have anything suitable, so online it is. So far, everything has been okay. Some maternity leggings from JoJo, some maternity tights (can't remember the brand at the moment), some maternity dresses. Nothing from Seraphine or Shein. There is plenty of stock on the store's online store, you just have to order it to the store to go and pick it up. A lot of people prefer to try stuff on first, and that's what you can't do anymore. It's a heck of a gamble, but as long as you know your size and materials, you should be okay. I find it helpful if the model's height is stated (if browsing online), you can then make an educated guess as to how it will fit.

Vitriolinsanity · 12/10/2025 20:03

Next and Dorothy Perkins had really good stuff when I had DS. I’d throw in some JoJo and Isabella for good measure. I’m likely not your best poster though as I wore heels to the hospital 🤣 JL do a brand called Ripe which looks good. They’ve got JoJo dungarees too.

stickybear · 12/10/2025 20:08

Another vote for Isabella Oliver, I had a couple of really lovely things from there. I think it's the same company as Baukjen? Really great quality anyway

stichguru · 12/10/2025 20:11

Mamas and Papas was my favourite, but that was 13 years ago!

Pigeon123456 · 12/10/2025 20:22

As well as the other brands listed, I would look at Mamalicious. You do have to be a bit careful with the fabric because a lot of it is polyester but I also had some really lovely stuff in cotton and linen from there.

user2848502016 · 12/10/2025 20:22

Seraphine have some nice things, bought a dress
and jacket there for a wedding and both good quality. I would have a look on vinted.
Also Jojo maman Bebe.
H&M used to have some nice basics in cotton

mixedcereal · 12/10/2025 20:27

I bought a few maternity bits from Lindex which were great

KatRee · 12/10/2025 20:28

Totally agree with comments about a lot of the high street brands ranges being cheap fabric - I think h and m one of the worst offenders, which I found such a shame as everything always looked so nice in the website. Also agree with seraphine and jojo being better quality, but I found both especially Jo Jo’s quite mumsy. However, the best maternity dresses I had were from seraphine and were knitted ribbed dresses with a kind of cropped jumper layer that make them great for nursing too - I’m holding onto mine for nursing this winter, - they are still in great condition, even though I wore them non-stop for work last winter while pregnant. I’ve had compliments literally every time I’ve worn them as well. If you look on Vinted under Amaya seraphine dress you should be able to find examples of what I mean.

KatRee · 12/10/2025 20:35

Actually not 100% sure the design is called Amaya, but it’s this one and it came in a few colours, only this one was striped, most were plain

ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit · 13/10/2025 19:38

Oh also meant to say seven for all mankind do good quality maternity jeans, even if they are a bit spenny. But I lived in maternity jeans. And the Palazzo trousers from Me&Em are fantastic. Really soft, wash beautifully and don’t pile.

Sweaty Betty do great quality maternity casuals

SomeMonstersEatTelly · 13/10/2025 19:50

Isabella Oliver, Boob, Ripe. I found For the Creators good for inspiration for styles from ordinary brands that work with a growing tummy.
