Frump Fighters

i saw Frump Fighters mentioned on another thread. So thanks to that poster. I’m sorry I can’t remember who it was.
FF provide a daily outfit calendar that you can put together using things already in your wardrobe, plus buying a few extra clothes to fill in any gaps. That doesn’t need doing right away though.
The name does make me wince a bit, but I liked the concept so downloaded the free sample autumn calendar.
Im only 4 days in but I found it very interesting. I’m actually wearing all those nice things I own instead of saving them for when I go somewhere special. The calendar has taken a bit of getting used to because the clothes they use are just examples and you need to identify something that you own which will fit the brief. For example I don’t own any patterned t-shirts but I do have a short sleeve patterned casual blouse so I’ve used that instead.
Has anyone else tried Frump Fighters and how did you find it?

Right. As if I needed an app to tell me what to wear.

The thing is - some of us really don't know what to wear! I am certainly one of these. I hated always feeling the styleless one, drawn inevitably to clothes either too 'frumpy' - floral dresses and skirts (thanks Mum!) or magpie glittery - sparkly tops etc when all I wanted was to look classic.

It really reduces your confidence always thinking you look a bit odd.

I haven't used this app (though I''ll look) but just wanted to say this is all about confidence in my opinion and also not spending money in a desperate doomed to fail manner - as I have done much of my life.

I am now a Vinted addict. So wonderful to make mistakes at pocket money levels not £+ levels.

How do people not know how to dress themselves?

Did you mean to be so rude?

Rude? @Humberston asked a reasonable question.

I found Humberston rude.

It was only a reasonable question if you hadn't just read the rest of the thread where posters are saying "I find it hard to have the right clothes in my wardrobe and I like learning new ways to put them together".

Today I'm wearing a "print button down" (dinosaur shirt from Tu, though Joanie do some lovely patterned shirts too), a "warm vest" (lovely sleeveless chunky waistcoat I knitted with enormous buttons that tone with the shirt) and "neutral jeans" (I have a pair of black work trousers that go in for everything related, for work). I wouldn't have put these together before this suggestion, I feel coordinated, and it's made me ditch the 5 Boden patterned blouses I kept buying on repeat and keep the single one I like best and this shirt which I absolutely love and gets lots of compliments.

narniabusiness · 21/10/2025 16:57

@leliyou could take the outfit calendar and purchase near identical items and put them together in the ways suggested and it would be fine. What you are encouraged to do is choose something from your own wardrobe that would take the place of each suggested item. From the sounds of it you have a print skirt ( which is one of the items) but perhaps the plainer pieces to mix with the patterns are what you are missing. Or perhaps like me you don’t have many layering pieces like cardigans and vests. I also tend to pick the same top and bottom on repeat because I know it works. The outfit planner means I’m trying out new combinations. Yes I could do that anyway but decision fatigue often comes when I’m in a rush in the morning.

Why pay for something that you can use for free?
I've been using Whering for the last few years and it performs a similar function.

narniabusiness · 21/10/2025 17:06

That sounds like a great outfit @drspouse. I like that you substituted the puffer vest for your hand knitted one. My outfit today was ‘print sleeveless blouse’, although mine is a long sleeve but lightweight Indian cotton print, with ‘Winter colour pants’ which are my button front denim trousers. I would have put this blouse away now the weather is cooler instead of digging out a cardigan.

I’ve not used Whering but do use Indyx which I had thought of as the same. I could be mistaken. I could put outfits together on Indyx but they would be limited because my wardrobe was limited. I now realise that my wardrobe was extensive but really lacked variety. My trousers were all jeans. My tops were mainly jumpers. My dresses were mainly suitable for the summer months only. There was only so much I could do with it and I was bored of wearing the same things. It was a lightbulb moment for me to realise that buying more jeans and jumpers wasn’t going to solve the problem.

I think most people have a 'uniform' though that suits their style & makes them feel good. I never wear prints or a puffer waistcoat. My style in Winter is wide leg or barrel jeans, plain scoop neck t & a cashmere jumper, cashmere scarf - often in leopard plus a wool coat. Accessorized with big gold hoops/leopard/snakeskin belt & flatforms of various types. I rarely wear dresses or skirts in the winter but go all out in the summer months. So it would be pointless following someone else's prescriptive mandate for me.

It all sounds rather confusing & complicating to me.
Rather like the many posters who want to reclaim their style & are told to shop on Vinted. You need to definitely know your style & what suits you before shopping on these Preloved sites otherwise you will have an utter mishmash of clothing.

Sounds interesting and I will have a look. I can't get worked up about the term "frump" if I'm honest. Might be worth inputting similar info and pictures into Chat GPT and have it done for free?

I tried that with Copilot which is on my laptop. The results were mixed 🤣It could do something basic but when it offered to put it into a visual things started to go very wrong. It’s invented a new day of the week, and I might find it hard to wear two pairs of shoes on Monday. I hope you have more luck

I'm sorry but that's hilarious. Faturday though - as I keep saying AI doesn't have a clue what it's like to have a body.
