Cleanest Make up/facial care brands

54 and having skin allergy hell. Please can you give me your cleanest makeup/facial care brands (yes I have tried up circle can use their face oil but that’s it) most of the clean brands have Tocopherol in which brings me out in a rash.

Im using their face oil English Mineral makeup company now which I love BUT I just don’t get that fresh look.

Anyone been through the same post menopausal hell with the sudden onslaught on face rashes can recommend cleaner brands?

Obvs skincare is worth a look, they do unfragranced options and an Intensive Recovery cream which heals almost anything. Find them on Insta and message Sian the founder for advice. She is passionate about her products and the recovery cream saved my DS's skin while he was on roaccutane and his eczema was at its worst.

Other than that, my menopausal skin is liking Dr Organic skin calm probiotic cream. And I've found going fragrance free has helped a lot.

Origins Dr Weil range works for me

jeaux90 · 10/10/2025 06:55

Thanks! Will check them all out. Been looking at Zoe Bee too but they haven’t restocked and only create small batches.

Weleda or dr organic.
if you download the Yuka app you can scan the bar codes of products and it will tell you a score out of a 100 how clean the product is and what the bad ingredients are. Can use in food as well.

UpMyself · 10/10/2025 07:45

I use Weleda and Dr Organic.
You could use jojoba oil for moisturising. Pure Jojoba Oil 100ml | Dr Organic | H&B, or coconut oil.

Brilliant recommendations thank you! Checking them all out. I did just see Zoe Bee restocked so I’m trying some of that. Are there any make up recommendations? I’ve been using the English Mineral Make up company but it is quite a faff to use and sometimes I just want something you slap on for a fresh look with a bit of mascara, Jones Road Miami is good, relatively clean, anything else people would recommend?

I see Zoe Bee recommended a lot, but I have very sensitive skin (to some things) so I was surprised to see essential oils in them. Ordered anyway and reacted. To their credit they refunded.
Ive been using Made of More day cream and Superdrug menopause night cream. So far so good.

jeaux90 · 10/10/2025 09:52

@BackToLurk gosh I mean you think when it’s so paired back it will be ok but I’ve had the same problems with Upcircle and I think it’s Tocepherol. I’m fine with their eye cream and face oil but react to their cleanse balm and moisturiser. Bloody minefield! Will report back on Zoe Bee!

I really rate Byoma. Easy to get hold of and my skin has never looked better.

Hullabalooza · 10/10/2025 16:27

Tropic skincare has consistently kept my skin calm when the majority of other brands play it up. IMO you can’t beat it

UpMyself · 10/10/2025 18:47

Tropic is MLM

jeaux90 · 17/10/2025 11:36

INIKA organic, just bought some BB cream from them and some illuminator so far so good (no rash)

Typology - a French brand and every single product has over 80% yuka score (most have 100%). No fragrances, no unnecessary ingredients.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 17/10/2025 12:32

my skin is fairly sensitive and becomes incredibly sensitive when I’m stressed, sick etc.

The Cetaphil facial moisturiser and the cleansing lotion (Cetaphil, definitely not cerave) are great ime. Prescription products and some la roche products are good as well (ime).

Many “clean” / natural brands irritate my (incredibly sensitive) eyes. and my skins won’t tolerate them when it’s already being “temperamental”…

So based on my personal experience I wouldn’t recommend them.

jeaux90 · 18/10/2025 09:34

@CeeCeeDeeBee thank you will take a look

@PumpkinsAndCoconutsmy allergies are specific to chemicals like MI, Acrylics, Acetate and the clean brands don’t use them but I’m also allergic to Tocopherol I think which is used in alot of clean brands. Bit of a minefield I am trying to navigate so I’ll look at any recommendations. Sorry you also struggle with your skin, it’s infuriating.

Have a look at

A.S. Apothecary

There’s a lot of bumph - but the products are lovely, and effective.

I love this company. I did a perfumery day with them once and surprised myself by making something I really liked. They use v high quality, natural ingredients, no short-cuts, nothing nasty. Other companies in this vein are Sweet Bee Organics and Natural Wisdom. These are all small UK businesses run by creative female founders with integrity, also eco-conscious and beautiful.

Oh yes, and another one is Thunderbird Skin and they specialise in sensitive skin so I'd definitely look there, OP

Amazing thank you not heard of any Sweet Bee or Natural Wisdom or Thunderbird skin. Will check them all out.

Just reporting back. Zoe Bee. Face scrub, gold cream and green cream all working ok. No rashes. INIKA BB cream and the sheer concealer (tube one) also good. Still have not found an alternative mascara so am sticking with the English mineral make up company for that and a few other things they do that I love.

Thanks for the update

It’s a total minefield isn’t it! Allergies are a nightmare

Iclyn · 27/10/2025 18:16

I've often have eczema on my face and have to have steroid cream at times .
My skin is very reactive to many products , but I've always been fine with Liz Earle products .
