Jeans and a nice top

I have a work event later this month.

It's a casual evening affair. I work in a male dominated industry (approx 80% of my department are male). 90% of the men will be wearing jeans and t shirt/ casual shirt.

This is to give you an idea of the dress code/ other guests.

I've spoken with several of the other women in my department and we've agreed it's a "jeans and a nice top" type occasion. Some are going to wear casual dresses or skirts and a sweater top but no one is in heels or dressy.

But I need a "nice top". So suggestions please! Budget up to £150.

I have jeans, but you can never have too many so open to suggestions on those as well.

And I love shoes, so recommendations there as well please.

Thanks

&Other Stories for nice tops.

Quite honestly (and yes, I am perfectly familiar with the S&B board) if 90% of the men will be wearing jeans and t shirt / casual shirt this doesn’t sound like an event for which it would be worth buying new clothes. Surely you have some low key casual clothes in your wardrobe?

No I don't. I've recently lost a fair bit of weight and my wardrobe is minimalist at best as I'm waiting for my weight loss to plateau, which it now has.

What jeans do you have. ‘Jeans and nice top’ relies on the jeans being fashionable and well fitting and and a style that flatters you. Not supermarket stretchy fabric uni-bum creating jeans

Good point. I have some hush 'mom' jeans, some h&m wide leg and some barrell jeans, can't remember the brand.

Fair enough!

Minimalist?

How about one of these - all the better to flatter your new figure:

Toast top

Or this:

Cos top

Or:

Realisation top

Minimalist as in I have the bare minimum of clothes at the moment (i.e. I need new clothes!) but I do love those tops you've linked to! Thanks

I'd go for a light knit, something that can be worn year-round. I find evening events can get a bit warm for a heavy knit, and if it is cool, then wear a silky camisole under for an extra layer.

This is nice from Sezane:

or this black one:

If you wear basics, this shirt is classic but has ruffle on collar and sleeves to elevate it just a bit. You could also wear it under a light jumper with the ruffles showing.

I love this top but it might not be your style:
