Blepharoplasty on NHS?

intheaviary · 06/10/2025 13:54

Anyone had this? If so, do you think I would qualify looking at this photo?

I’m 35 and my eyelids are getting worse. I am really noticing it more in recent photos of myself and it is really getting me down.

Blepharoplasty on NHS?

don't open this link, it opened a trojan virus on my computer. I have reported to MN. (OP may be completely unaware of this, so not casting aspersions on anyone)

MushMonster · 06/10/2025 17:02

In your original picture you have normal standard hooded eyes. In the second, you are squinting. In both pictures your eye lid is fine, your lash line is visible.
If it does not affect your vision, then there is no point in any surgery, private or not.

Thanks for the warning!

OP these photos are so different that if they were taken quite close together, the ‘saggy’ eyes might actually be puffy rather than droopy. Could be an allergy or lack of sleep perhaps?

TheGreatWesternShrew · 06/10/2025 17:45

If you want cosmetic surgery you’ll have to pay for it

intheaviary · 06/10/2025 19:06

Thanks for your experiences. First photo taken today, second one taken yesterday! Second photo is more reflective of the pictures I see of myself. But maybe not as bad as I think judging by these comments. I’ve had a tough year health-wise so may be having an impact on my skin/puffiness.

I qualified for it on the NHS. It was only one eye, but the eyelid droop got worse as I got older, and got worse as the day went on, so by the end of the working day, most of my pupil was covered. I was about 40 when I had it done so 15 years ago.

HorseOnBy · 06/10/2025 20:17

I paid privately to have mine done. 50 years old and my lid was pushing on my eyelashes and I could see my eyelashes in my vision. Far worse than your first photo. Mine cost £2k for both eyes and the clinic had criteria for doing the surgery, so one eye being worse than the other they considered the impact on the other eye.

It has to be covering your eye to be accepted on the NHS. You also need to be aware that the surgery can also alter your appearance in terms of your eyebrows too. Your eyebrows are being pulled down by the eyelids so you can then look different once you remove the drag.

As much as most people sail through an upper bleth mine was horrifically swollen, no reflection on the surgeon I have skin that overreacts to everything. I was the second worst case of swelling and bruising the clinic had ever seen.

Summergarden · 06/10/2025 20:21

There’s no way you’d qualify. It’s clear to see in the first pic that if you applied eyeshadow it would easily be seen, whereas with people with severely hooded eyes it just wouldn’t be visible because the lids droop so low that they would obstruct it and indeed, the lids dropping so low affect their vision whereas that isn’t happening with yours. In the second pic you are squinting which is the only thing making the eyes look so hooded there.

CarefulN0w · 06/10/2025 20:38

Hard to say without seeing your whole face, but it might be possible to explore Botox as an alternative to surgery. You would need to go to a medically qualified professional though and not a beauty salon.

Weird, it opened fine for me and gave info about what qualifies. Sorry!

There’s a thread on Style and beauty from someone asking for makeup advice following upper eyelid surgery in Amsterdam.
She paid in the region of £540 and looks amazing.
probably worth a look if you want it done

notnorman · 07/10/2025 08:45

My friend had it done on nhs cos one eyelid kept closing. The other friend who looked like you had them done privately.

and now looks a bit startled in my opinion …

UpperBleph · 07/10/2025 08:47

No, I was referred for funding and refused on the NHS so had it done privately overseas a month ago. Well worth the money.

Thank you, I love them but just as importantly my eyes don’t feel tired all the time now. I went to Faceland in Amsterdam, just because of the price tbh. A friend of mine went there first and looked great so I decided to go for it. Faceland Amsterdam have a huge waiting list now so lots are going to their Düsseldorf clinic but I don’t know anything about that one. They have a Facebook group that’s worth joining. It’s called Faceland worldwide.

there is nothing wrong with your eyes? what on earth do you think needs fixing?

I have a friend whose upper lids are getting bigger and they are sitting on (even protruding) her eye lashes and starting to affect her vision. she will probably have to give up driving. Not even she qualifies on the NHS. but what on earth do you wanna fix???

fuckhimintheear · 07/10/2025 21:18

I have RTFT but I think your eyes are fine. I’d love a boob job, my varicose veins removing and teeth whitening. I think I might have to go private though. 🥹

leafbrow · 07/10/2025 21:24

My mum had it done on the NHS but it was really bad for years before she had the surgery to the point where the skin was forcing her eyelashes to grow inwards. Also they fixed the issue but it wasn't a cosmetic surgery, so while it looked better it didn't have the antiaging cosmetic results the OP might hope for. I get Botox on the NHS for migraines and my friends are always saying how envious they are but most of it goes into the back of my head and neck and only a little is in my forehead so it makes little cosmetic difference if any.

JDM625 · 07/10/2025 21:33

OP- have you ever tried those stick on, elliptical strips sometimes used by people with Sth East Asian eyes to lift the lids more? Some people find them effective for a period.

My mum had a blepharoplasty, but she lives abroad. Similar healthcare to the NHS and they also had to be very droopy to qualify. Much worse than yours. She looked 10yrs younger once done though. That was 20yrs ago and they have dropped again, but not to the same degree as yet.

I came on to recommend OP find this thread. She even posted pictures. I had mine done privately 18 months ago at a clinic on Harley Street, cost £3200 but I live in London so didn’t have to factor in transport or hotels as I would have done if I’d gone abroad.
I’d wait a few years if I were you, they genuinely don’t look that bad.

OhamIreally · 08/10/2025 13:22

Sorry @UpperBleph didn't see you’d already replied.
