Where to start with make up?

I never learned how to do makeup.

Over the past 10 years approx I wear a tinted moisturiser. Sometimes for events I might try some mascara and eye shadow and tinted lip balm.

Lately over the past while the tinted moisturer I use looks awful and flakey. But this is likely skincare related and neglecting skincare.

I am upping my skincare routine due to a function next week.

Where do I start with make up?

I bought a primer and a new tinted moisturer by elf so I will try that this week. I always thought foundations were too heavy? Do I need a foundation? Do I need concealer? Do I need contour? Blush? Eye make up? I think I have hooded eyes. Setting spray? My face tends to get red and I have a green based primer for anti redness.

Any time there's an event I buy things but then I never use them again and they are in a back press until the next event and then they are likely out of date and I do it all over again.

Here's what I think is an easy basic kit, tinted moisturiser or a light foundation, cream blush, mascara, a cream eyeshadow stick, eyebrow gel either clear or tinted and a sheer lipstick/gloss.

Skincare is your first step! What do you do currently?

I’d recommend ditching the tinted moisturiser and getting a decent moisturiser with SPF, then a decent light foundation over that.

Double cleansing sounds fancy and faffy but all it is is removing your makeup then washing your face. I use an oil cleanser for the first then Cetaphil gel cleanser with water which is super gentle.

Light foundation
Creamy stick blusher (Clinique do a lovely one)
Creamy stick contour (Clinique again for me)
Eyebrows

I don’t bother with mascara as I have decent lashes naturally and I end up with panda eyes if I use it

If your face tends to get red, focus on fixing the cause not using harsh products to hide it. Maybe you need a gentle cleanser and rich moisturiser. Avoid things like setting sprays, they’re for full face going out out makeup

I have an event the weekend coming. I doubt I will be able to fix the reddness by then. I ordered a new serum that promises to help with inflammation. Hopefully that will help.
