Autumn shoes (not boots or trainers)

What shoes are people wearing? Specifically if you wear wide leg jeans/trousers?

I don’t like heals or anything pointy. I mainly live in boots (DM’s or similar) but they don’t really go with wide leg jeans/trousers. A lot of people seem to be wearing the Birkenstock Boston’s or Dr Martens slingbacks? Are they worth the money? Are their cheaper alternatives? I like the idea of open back as most shoes seem to rub my heal.

I’m not keen on trainers, most of the stylish ones just don’t fit my feet (gazelles, Nike air force etc..).

what is everyone else wearing?

I don’t do heels or pointy toes either.

I’m mainly wearing loafers. These ones:

I’m living in Bostons right now. They’re spendy but worth it, they last for years and are super comfy. Just be aware that they come in 2 widths and most shoe shops only stock the narrow ones

They're not good for your feet as one tends to claw the toes in them.
If your heels are getting sore, i'd say the shoe didn't fit properly. Wear lace-ups and take care to lace them so that your foot isn't slipping.

All of those are way out of my price range 😬

I should have known better to post…….people on here seem to have a way bigger budget than I do for clothes and shoes.

You should have put your budget in the OP then

TheRavenKingsDaughter · 04/10/2025 14:45

Cos and Grenson in the sales can cost no more than Birkenstocks. Also, if you’re finding shoes / boots uncomfortable it may well be that slightly better made footwear would help?

And, to be fair, you did ask what other people are wearing … None of us know what any other posters spend until they post here.

Moonlightfrog · 04/10/2025 14:48

I did ask in my post if there was a cheaper alternative to the Birkenstocks? Maybe I wasn’t clear enough. I am a single parent carer to a disabled DD, sadly my budget isn’t huge. When ever I post asking for advice on here people seem to suggest really high end things. £500 on a pair of shoes is crazy money.

Yes I should have been more clear. Ideally I want something comfortable but not necessarily branded. A cheaper version of the Birkenstock or similar.

I do like the Clark’s shoes linked but without the chain detain on the front.

Edited

I know and I’m sorry for not stating. I don’t actually know anyone in real life that spends £100+ on shoes. If I was to buy the Birkenstocks it would have been from vinted.

I've just bought these from Moshulu and am very pleased with them

OP I’m confident you could find other brands available new but pre-owned?

BlueBoatVillage · 04/10/2025 14:57

Following OP as I could’ve written your OP. But I too was dismayed at reading the prices of things people have listed 🙈 I would say we’re fairly comfortable off too but I still don’t really want to pay more than £50 for a pair of shoes, especially if I want them in a couple of different colours! If it helps, I’ve seen some nice loafers on ASOS for £30 that look nice! Think I’m going to give them a go!

BlueBoatVillage · 04/10/2025 15:00

Oh and for what it’s worth, none of my friends are struggling but none of them spend £500 on a pair of shoes! Mumsnet at it’s most batshit!

Definitely try Vinted!

Op, look on Vinted, but do your research so you know exactly what you want. I’ve bought many pairs of new footwear that way☺️

Bishopsbuddy · 04/10/2025 15:04

Oh if you look on Fat Face. They have Birkenstock dupes let me see if I can find a link

Moonlightfrog · 04/10/2025 15:44

Thank you, I forgot about fatface. I will also have a look on vinted. Ideally I don’t want to spend more than £50, I won’t be wearing them a lot, I live in walking boots (the only footwear I do spend a lot of money on), I just wanted something comfortable to wear in the odd days I’m not in walking boots and to go with wide leg trousers.

No need to be rude. Some people choose to spend a lot of money on good quality footwear as it’s usually much better for your feet but also they usually last a lot longer (a lifetime even if well looked after) so the cost per wear may actually be much less than much cheaper shoes. Horses for courses.

henlake7 · 04/10/2025 20:50

I tend to go for Primark UGG or Birkenstock dupes for casual shoes. Also have some comfy brogues but I am on the lookout for some nice chunky loafers.

YControl · 04/10/2025 21:51

I like doc marten shoes and have a couple of pairs of lace ups - I've found their brogues often go in the sale and I got a great pair of burgundy lace ups for around £60 last year. Comfy and can be dressed up smart or casual depending on the rest of your outfit.
