Tempted by the new Jones Road package

I’ve been targeted by an ad for the new ‘everything you need’ Jones Road make up consisting of the miracle balm, eye shadow, pencil, lipstick and blusher (?) (It’s limited edition, 2 types - lighter and darker skin)

As a non shopper (as in perusing shops) and nonwearer of make up but now at 55 I’m feeling a need to make more of an effort to look less knackered and more presentable, I’m tempted to splurge the £80. It seems to tick a lot of boxes but I don’t know if there are better or cheaper alternatives out there.

Should I go for it or not?

I only have the miracle balm but it's like smearing vaseline on your cheeks.
Horribly sticky

TeaRoseTallulah · 03/10/2025 14:15

Nothing tempts me at all, I agree it's like Vaseline and I find the packaging really cheap looking.

faustina · 03/10/2025 14:25

I have the miracle balm which I really love. Also have the lip pencil and the lip balm and I have barely used them - the lip balm is a bit nothingy and the pencil is very dry and hard to use.

confusedlab47 · 03/10/2025 14:27

I’ve got several jones road eyr shadows - v flattering and easy on. Didn’t get on with miracle balm either just too heavy a texture for me. Much prefer hourglass for blush.

fairlygoodmother · 03/10/2025 14:33

I don’t like that in the advert I’m seeing, she says the lipstick is a ‘collectible’🙄.

I also don’t think I would understand how to use the shiny stuff.

Summerhillsquare · 03/10/2025 14:38

I am 50s, and use
Lisa Eldridge stuff. Probably more expensive but surely better to buy a very few things you will really use, than a kit?

Roosch · 03/10/2025 21:28

Oooh I’ve just bought this! Never tried their items before. However this it does say can return!

PorpoiseWithPurpose · 05/10/2025 08:31

The reviews for their miracle balm, etc are awful. Terribly tacky. Vaseline like. People describing having to pull at their skin to apply it. It’s put me off

HollyhockDays · 05/10/2025 08:39

I bought their foundation pencil and it was so dry and dragging on my skin.

Questioningnamechange · 05/10/2025 08:45

My MIL (generally a non-wearer of make-up) loves the Miracle Balm, and it does look lovely on her. She v kindly let me try some and I loathed it. It's so thick, it felt like applying grease paint and made my skin feel really smothered. It looked nice enough, gave me a bit of a glow, but I couldn't bear the feel of it. I think it's pretty marmite as a product, so I'd certainly see if you can try it first, or at least buy a smaller version to test, before you invest in a whole set.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 05/10/2025 09:05

I was terribly excited by an advert for this, and am in pretty much exactly the same boat as the OP. I mentioned to a colleague who has a huge interest in make up and she loaned me some Jones Road that she'd bought and doesn't use. I was really thinking the miracle balm would do me as I have older drier skin, but it looked less dewy on my skin and more like a wet tacky patch of vaseline. I tried to tone it down a bit with a very light powder, but then looked like a fresh wet peach skin. Sad as I hoped this would be a one stop holy grail, but I'm so glad I didn't fork out. Might have been good when I was 30.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 05/10/2025 09:06

FWIW I've been recommended Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin (I think it's called) foundation, so I'm trying that next week.

deeahgwitch · 05/10/2025 09:43

A lot of advice that the Miracle Balm doesn’t suit posters on this thread.
I was in my local pharmacy and saw a new (to me) product Cream Cushion Foundation by Sculpted by Aimee.

The texture seemed lovely.
It might be worth a try @paulsimonsguitar

confusedlab47 · 05/10/2025 10:47

The Lisa Eldridge refillable rouge experience lipsticks are thick so the finish I found was good.

paulsimonsguitar · 08/10/2025 07:57

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I’ll give it a miss.

What I was tempted by was the ‘one stop’ nature of it. Kind of Gousto recipe kit but for make up. Can anyone recommend something along those lines? A package containing 4 or so essential items would be great.

Merit has the same sort of choose a group of products, so does Ilia - I hate this stuff but it’s one of those times you might be worth going to try textures in real life.

westman atelier will shade march from a photo

Catquest · 08/10/2025 11:50

@paulsimonsguitar

Im not sure if they do a kit as such but I really like the Trinny London make up as someone post meno.
The JR is too tacky but also the colours really blah.
Im not 19 , a smidgen of greasy colour doesnt cut it for me.

I have several TL just Joyous lip colours, the cream eyeshadow pots and blusher, the pots screw together which I love so you don't have to scrabble about .
Lovely cushiony formula with lovely colours

MabelMoo23 · 08/10/2025 14:50

I binned my miracle balm as I just couldn’t get on with it - hated the texture and it was just like applying pink Vaseline. Made my skin sticky and tacky and just made my hair stick to my face

Westman Atelier super loaded highlighter or drops are much much better

I don’t rate Jones Road and you might prefer the Saie gift box for a “one stop shop” https://beautyadventcalendar.net/saie-vanity-case-vault-2025/

Or for autumn Cult Beauty have their experts edit for skincare and a tonal hues edit that has one of each makeup item:

Expert-approved www.cultbeauty.co.uk/p/beauty-box/the-expert-approved-edit-worth-over-235/17289596/

Tonal hues https://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/p/beauty-box/the-tonal-hues-edit-worth-over-120/17289594/

on the thread people know clarins, Clinique, Estée Lauder, bobbi brown, plus the multi brand edits by Liberty Selfridges etc and there’s loads of edits about to come out with the festive season

I just use mine as lip balm now , only at night
It will last the rest of my life 😂

dagoo · 09/10/2025 07:57

I'd go to somewhere like Bobbi Brown for blusher and eye shadow. Much better to see and try things irl

confusedlab47 · 09/10/2025 08:42

What I found hard about getting to a certain age
is that colours that used to suit me don’t as much now. That’s why getting done over somewhere even if it’s a bit excruciating pays off as someone looks at you with new eyes

Fourmagpies · 09/10/2025 08:51

Not quite an all in one kit, but like PP above, I like Trinny London. You can set up a profile online and it'll recommend products and colours. I love the BFF cream, I rarely wear much make up but that and a bit of Lip2Cheek on my cheeks and I can look presentable.

showyourquality · 09/10/2025 14:39

I live near a JR shop so could go in and try stuff. I like some of the products but don’t have any miracle balm and it wasn’t suggested for me. I have tinted moisturizer, the touch up pencil and the lipstick/blusher. I was advised in the shop to pick individual products rather than a bundle so I could have exactly what would l would use. The shop staff are well trained.

Summerbean · 10/10/2025 20:47

I reluctantly binned my miracle balm yesterday . One of my worst ever beauty purchases. Awful stuff!
