Seasalt going down hill?

I’ve loved seasalt for years but I have a bad feeling about where they are going.

The summer collection was grim, so much stuff was sleeveless. Ladies who are a bit older like sleeves!

Now Ive bought 4 autumn dresses - 3 have gone back.
1 was very flimsy material, didn’t fit like the size usually did
1 was good material but poor design, too wide on the shoulders
1 was just awful - shapeless and way, way too long. The model online must have been well over 6 ft to make the dress look like it did.

The dress I kept is pretty but the fabric is also very flimsy. Not autumn weight at all.

I’ve got dresses from years ago which are much better weight and quality. This is just what happened with Boden!

So all combined with prices going up this is a bit depressing! Anybody else finding the same?

And I think the summer sleeveless thing was intended to be cost saving too!

I never buy their dresses as I want sleeves and I don't want floral. But the few things I did buy (two skirts) were the usual excellent quality.

CrochetMadRosie · 30/09/2025 15:35

I used to live in Seasalt clothes, but I just don’t like their patterns anymore… I had vouchers to use over the summer and just couldn’t find anything I liked.

I agree with you about the sleeves too. I definitely need some sort of sleeve these days!

They always used to have well made clothes that weren’t ‘cheap’ but lasted for years (I’ve got some tunics that must be at least 7 years old and are still fine) and now the prices have gone up a lot and they don’t last as long… such a shame.

I don't like as much of their things as I used to, but didn't notice a huge amount of sleeveless items this summer, and I'm 61 with bingo wings! I love the Cresting Waves sleeveless linen dress, these are so beautifully made and can be worn with a top underneath in cooler weather.

What I really don't like are all of the patterned dresses - a few more plain items would be much better. And the colours are dull this year, with far too much blue for my liking.

Quality wise I haven't noticed a decline, I bought some jeans and a waterproof coat in the past couple of months and both are excellent. However there wasn't a single thing I wanted in their mid-season sale, or indeed non-sale items. I did like a wool coat until I spotted it was actually 50% Polyester and cost £180. That isn't on.

I particularly like Seasalt because they have a really good Petite range, so I hope there is an improvement in coming months.

I got a really shitty reply back on SM when I commented on the sleeve thing, they obviously don't want to know!
Yes they're quality is not what it used to be.

IlovetoKnitandRead · 30/09/2025 16:22

I haven't liked much if their stuff for the last couple of seasons and I am a Seasalt girl at heart. Too many huge prints and odd styles on tall shapeless models in the catalogue. Plus they have stopped doing shoes so there must be trouble afoot😂

Denim4ever · 30/09/2025 16:26

The opposite for me, better styles recently and several sale bargains

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 30/09/2025 16:34

Somebody bought me a Seasalt top a few months ago and I liked it so much I bought a few more things for myself. All really good quality. I don't expect to like everything from a shop, style-wise.

BeaTwix · 30/09/2025 19:34

I wish they would do more plain stuff. I have several much loved jumpsuits (summer wear) in plain jersey which are at least three years old. I wear them both a LOT each summer.

They still make the style but only in print. I find it hard to incorporate that into my wardrobe so haven't bought a new one whereas I'd have added another plain one each year.

That’s really interesting. You obviously hit a nerve

I like them but then i buy stuff from there 2nd hand so i probably haven't got anything from the latest range yet. I am smaller on the top than on the bottom so tend to wear the sleeveless dresses with a long sleeved top underneath.

I agree about the length though, I had to take 8 inches off the bottom of the last 2 maxi dresses and my dress that is supposed to be knee length nearly comes down to my ankles.

Owly11 · 30/09/2025 23:26

Their stuff has been really bad for a while now. Weird cuts on trousers and awful patterns and cheap material. It happens with so many brands. They start out good quality and when they get successful they get bought out, the prices stay the same and the quality goes to shit. So fed up of it.

RosesAndHellebores · 01/10/2025 07:25

Hard for me to say because there isn't a branch nearby and the slim pickings at M&S don't give enough of an idea. I have a few work dresses but I like a floral and there are a couple of styles that I find forgiving.

I agree with others that they may be waning as has happened with Laura Ashley, Boden, White Stuff, etc. Something will come along that's fresher I was in JL at the weekend and there were new names, I can't remember.

shortieshortie · 01/10/2025 07:53

For me they were never on a hill to go down in the first place.
I own 1 SS dress which is a summer 'frock' (sleeveless) and I rarely wear it. It's okay but only for really hot weather.

I can never pinpoint why I don't like their stuff, but I guess it's because it never looks stylish. It looks like the sort of thing a Cornish artist might have worn in her studio in the 50s. Too many dresses the same shape/ cut just in different patterns. Frumpy.

Shapeless, odd patterns, a bit like the online company Patra - the kind of dresses my mum and her friends wear (and they are in their 80s and 90s!)

White Stuff is a bit better now than it was a couple of years ago. They went down when they were taken over and the patterns were not nice ones for a while. This summer the clothes were a lot better. A tad overpriced in the sales though

Personally, I feel the print stuff is generally why customers go to Seasalt and White Stuff. That said I bought an absolutely beautiful dress in the sale in navy. Pink shows style off better

They were a shop I used to dip in and out of occasionally. I liked their summer trousers mainly. Some of their coats were nicely cut too.

Honestly though I haven't bothered for about 4 years. The clothes suddenly looked very "older lady" style, and very loose and baggy. And the quality is poor now.

DramaAlpaca · 01/10/2025 14:34

I'm not a fan of their patterns, but I like their linen and their plain cotton t-shirts are nice too - decent quality.

HelloClouds · 01/10/2025 17:13

I bought a few skirts from Seasalt in recent years and most had very uneven hems. There seems to be a lack of quality control. Current skirts are either knee length or far too long. Plain T-shirts don't survive the tumble dryer (that was my fault for not checking the label!).

I'm probably their prime demographic but I've had a £100 gift voucher for ages which I still haven't managed to spend. I was hoping for some appealing clothes this autumn but I'm not inspired by the new prints!
