I’m after some too. Sorel seem good but sizing seems a minefield and I don’t know which style to go for. I have gortex running trainers but they won’t cut it when it’s really horrid.

Many people recommend short wellies but I worry about what they do to Achilles etc long term.

Can anyone recommend anything?

ASICS GTX gel sonoma trail shoes are fab - goretex so good waterproofing, great non-slippy soles and not expensive, like this: https://www.sportsshoes.com/products/search?q=ASICS%20gtx%20sonoma&page=1&sort=&display=72&f_attribute_gender=womens

Need to size up half a size, or a whole size if you’re wearing multiple socks

Unfortunately I can’t get away with them, I’ve got gortex Brooks ghosts and I might try and find some cascadia on vinted for more traction. ASICS and my Achilles no longer get on 😔.

I’m tempted to get some Sorels from Amazon because returns are so easy.

I have these in brown. They're ancient.

It won't let me rename the link. Not my listing.

I find it really hard to find comfy shoes/boots but I have some walking shoes called hedgehog by north face that are really good. I have weird heels that seem to rub easily in wellies and walking boots but these are great. Walked up ben nevis in them, no blister s. Shoe like enough for weekend dog walking and watching son's rugby etc. Look good with jeans

I have these, and I love them. Totally waterproof and warm, and the comfiest boots I've ever had:

I also wear them with skirts/ dresses and think they look nice as a rugged look!

ETA: I have really narrow feet, but need a wide toe box, and these fit the bill perfectly, being snug round the heel, but giving my toes room to spread out.

While built for day hikes and mellow backpacking trips, the waterproof Ousel Mid is as at home on those trails just out your front door. While most SUVs never see mud—and we’re OK if your Ousel’s don’t either—these mids will make you much happier if th...

I live in my Blundstone boots all winter. Comfortable and waterproof and seemingly indestructible to the extent that they look better the more you wear them.

I got some Blundstones in Seasalt sale, quite a find at half price but they seem a little firm, because I got them when it was practically summer I haven't worn them much yet but do they soften with wear and I also have a job to get them off, they are the right size for my feet and not too tight when on.

I've got a pair of Hotter walking boots (I know, I know). They are waterproof, comfy, and not too expensive. Not the grippiest soles but fine for pavements and decent paths. I've got a long walk into town and these do the job in winter. I got them after an ankle injury, they were the only boots I could bear to wear.

SeaAndStars · 17/10/2025 20:48

@RedRiverShore5 yes they really do soften up with wear. I bought mine at a shop where the guy really knew Blundstone boots. I have quite wide feet and was tempted to go up a size but he advised me not to because they 'give' and they really have.

Know what you mean about getting them off. I put them on by pulling on the two tabs and take them off by pulling down on the heel.

Well done on getting such a bargain.
