Make up lesson?

Hello all… so , at the age of 60 I’ve finally realised that I could really do with a makeup lesson - specifically eyes / eyebrows etc.

where do you recommend I find someone?

my style (such as it is!) is low key, natural but I’m definitely feeling the need for more definition .

Should I go to a beauty counter or are they more interested in selling their stuff? Ideally I want someone to show me using what I have and make suggestions / changes based on that rather than buying a load of new stuff

I popped to boots and looked for someone older and not heavily made up on the beauty counters and settled on clarins, she was excellent and understood what I wanted.. I also get my eyebrows shaped and tinted every few weeks and that makes a big difference.

Beauty counter artists are there to sell you their products. I don’t find them to be particularly qualified either. See if you can get a recommendation for a make up artist locally who uses lot of products. Someone like a bridal artist with lots of experience with multiple brands and take it from there.

thanks @BadActingParsley - thats a good idea to look for someone a bit older and more in line with what i'm after.

also, thanks @waltercrimble - that was my thinking/ concern too - so i like your idea about looking for a local make up artist .. will see if i can find someone down that route

I’d look around on YouTube tbh - search something like ‘eye make up tutorial for x age’. Then you can have a play around at home using what you’ve got without any pressure to buy. Plus make up counter lighting is always terrible - you need to get out of the shop and into natural light to see what it really looks like.
