Coat after weight loss

Last winter, I'd lost two stone and I was so excited that I got carried away and bought two (possibly three 🤭) new jackets and coats because mine were all old and too big. I realise now that this was probably a mistake - I've just tried them on again after losing another four stone and I don't like them at all. It's not just that they're too big, but also sort of unflattering in a way I don't like anymore. Sorry, I know the word frumpy isn't great, but that's how I feel in them. I'm annoyed with myself for wasting the money.

The thing is I don't even know what sort of thing I want - last year I had a padded puffer sort of winter coat and a light puffer jacket, but I think I'd like something sleeker. I have no idea what people wear - I'm currently sat people watching, trying to work it out! I'm a size 12 and 5 foot 3, and would really appreciate any suggestions of coats you've bought or are planning on buying, please.

Sell your old ones on Vinted! You’ll probably make enough to cover the cost of a new coat.

What do you need your coat to do for you? I spend a lot of time standing around cold play parks so I do have the ubiquitous padded down coat - mine is from Uniqlo. I also have a smart wool camel coat for work (Jaeger, and £25 from a charity shop brand new with tags!) plus a thinner but fully waterproof parka from Boden. It sort of depends where you’ll wear it I guess?

I don't need it to be waterproof really, and I don't wear a coat for work, even for the commute. All I really need it for the occasional school run and trips into town, shopping and lunch with friends etc. I just want to look smartish (or just looking normal fit in really 🤣).

I think maybe I'd like a wool / fake wool look black mid length coat, but then I usually wear converse, so maybe that wouldn't work? I also struggle with how to wear jeans and boots, but that's another problem!

Have a look on Vinted at Moloh and see if any of their jackets/coats take your fancy. They’re designed and made in Britain, in small quantities, and fabulous quality. But that means they’re very expensive to buy new (£600+) but as a size 12 there’s currently a reasonable selection on Vinted (depending on your tastes of course).

What about a smart trench coat. Some really lovely ones this season. Or a tailored duffle style coat.

If you are going out and want to look good, then you really need a longer line wool coat - that’s just my opinion. Even with jeans and trainers you look instantly stylish.

if it’s really cold and you are just doing the school run or hanging out in the park etc you need a big puffa coat.

I've also lost 4 stone thanks to Mounjaro and I've just purchased this winter coat in black from Mango. Im also 5' 3". Its a lovely coat that I can wear either with jeans or smarter wear. It comes to just above my knees and looks better on than in the advert. Mango have lots of nice coats at the moment.
