What’s the best way to whiten teeth?

AngelaRaynersHair · 25/09/2025 21:42

If you have lovely white teeth (natural looking rather than TOWIE vibes) what do you do? I’ve used Crest strips in the past which are great but I struggle to find the time these days. If I go to a private hygienist can they provide anything better to whiten my teeth in one session? I don’t want those veneers they file down your teeth or anything like that.

Use a proper whitening kit, they’re about £300 but you get multiple syringes, probably 8 uses per box. I use them once or twice a month

transcripttess · 25/09/2025 21:59

Where do you get these from please? Do you have to buy from a dentist or are they available online?

ramonaquimby · 25/09/2025 22:01

Trays from a dentist. Don't buy online

basherlass · 25/09/2025 22:08

I got trays from my dentist. My teeth look incredible now if I don't say so myself! They're a bit wonky but really white. The trays have little indents in them that you put a teeny bit of whitening gel in. Perfectly moulded to my teeth and slightly over my gums so the gel doesn't touch them. I wouldn't recommend any other way. Dentist advised me against whitening toothpastes as they are often abrasive. I now use them every couple of months to keep the colour of my natural teeth the same as my front tooth crown.

ThePoshUns · 25/09/2025 22:28

I had mine done through my dentist. It was expensive but my teeth look lovely, white but natural.
my dentist recommends the enlighten package

Go to your dentist, you get custom trays moulded to your teeth which you put the gel in. It’s expensive but worth every penny

I paid £500, the dentist did the moulds and ordered the best colour match from Enlighten, who then made the trays and formulas.
i had 1 week overnight, 2nd week stronger formula overnight then 3rd week, strongest formula for 1hr a day.

I have really sensitive teeth. I paid a fortune about 20 years ago for whitening trays from the dentist and gave up after one session because the pain was so bad. It was awful. Nerve pain radiating down into my chin, and I couldn’t stop salivating.

Just a heads-up if you have sensitive teeth, OP.

soupyspoon · 26/09/2025 07:30

Our local dentist is charging 600 for this and its a really deprived area, I dont understand how people are paying such cheap prices for this

It's because dentists can charge whatever they like, absolute minefield. I had to travel a bit further to find a cheaper dentist (offering exactly the same company for the trays and gel that another dentist wanted £650 for, I paid £350!).

recreatingthephoto · 26/09/2025 07:40

Definitely get this done through a dentist. That means, if anything goes wrong ( sensitivity etc) the dentist can deal with it. Also the dentist will provide the correct custom made trays that have a safety dam around the edges to stop excess gel leaking on to your gums.
shop around or look for offers

Going to your dentist and having it done professionally by a dentist, OP.

The crest supreme strips were great. I did find some which were meant to be almost as good. I’ll see if I’ve still got any

Absolutely illegal to sell in the UK or EU because they contain hundreds times more than the legal.limit for over the counter sales and crest supreme are so far over the limit even dentists are not legally allowed to prescribe or use them.

They were good though.

So both this and the crest have almost double the strength even dentists are allowed to use in the U.K., EU , NZ and Australia and hundreds times more concentrated than is legally allowed to be sold direct to the public.

So you are buying from sellers who are criminals knowingly breaking the law with no legitimate way of getting hold of these products to import. So what guarantee do you have these are even genuine or safe to use ?

The laws on hydrogen peroxide in teeth whitening products were brought in to protect the public from the very real consequences on using high concentration hydrogen peroxide inside one of the most sensitive parts of your body . https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-57226565

I used the Crest ones for years and years with no issues.
I’m not sure I’ve asked for an opinion on them I’m simply giving the OP a response.

Having seen the damage illegal whitening gels have done , and having spoken to patients who were shocked that what they were buying was illegal , many times the safe amount of hydrogen peroxide and were not aware of the hazards and the fact they were not protected at all from the criminal sellers of illegal teeth whitening gels , it seems the right thing to do to warn people of the dubious chemicals they are putting inside their body. https://www.tradingstandards.uk/news-policy-campaigns/news-room/2024/dangerous-illegal-cosmetic-products-found-to-pose-serious-health-risks-for-consumers/

Another one recommending trays from the dentist. Worked really well, but more a matter of weeks than overnight.

Chillinvibes · 30/09/2025 05:59

I’ve just had an airflow scale and polish at my nhs dentist which i paid £100 for. It’s like having a gentle sandblast and my teeth now look a really natural white, it’s removed all the staining I had. I was really shocked at the difference and have previously used crest strips too. I’m going to have this treatment regularly now.
