New clothes inspiration - petite!

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has any inspiration for me. I'm 5'1, a size 10 (ish!) and struggling to find my my style after having 2 kids close together (3 and 1). I'm starting a new job and would like to be a little smarter. Chat GPT says my colour season is warm autumn. I am wondering what trousers are flattering for people my height? I have always worn skinny jeans but I'd like to try something different. Hoping for inspiration for trouser shapes to wear with winter boots or smart shoes? Or are skirts/dresses a better option? Thanks all

You could start by browsing these articles and seeing which brands appeal. (And the best websites will show how the clothes can be styled.)

I'm 5'2 and size 10 so similar, though proportionally bigger/heavier on the bottom half compared to the top so what works for me might not work for you.... I prefer wide trousers with a more fitted top, usually a shirt with some details (pleats, ruffles, lace etc). When it's colder I layer with a knit vest, cardigan or jumper (mostly shorter length to balance my proportions). I also like wearing dresses just above the knee, with tights and smart shoes (loafers, brogues, Mary janes etc) or boots.

Examples of shapes I like and work for me...

Trousers (in short length):

Shirts (tucked in):

Ooh lovely, thank you. Some good brands I'd not heard of before like Free People and Reformation. I like to avoid fast fashion and there looks to be good alternatives these days. Will have a Vinted nosy 😁

Thank you, this is great inspiration! I love those A&F trousers and that Hobbs dress. I carry my weight around my mid section and definitely need to experiment with different trouser styles. I really like the knit vest look so have got one to wear over a polo neck top. I really like chunky loafers particularly the Camper ones and DM boots. I think I fell in the skinny jeans rut around 10 years ago and it's just not working for me as I enter my later 30s!

Im even shorter and I've rediscovered boot-leg jeans but I think skinny bootleg is most flattering.

I also have some wide leg jeans that are from a kids dept but like a pp I wear with a fitted or slimline top.

Although im not sure im stylish, im just answering as someone petite!

I'm a similar size and height to you. I like the following:

Levis and Mint Velvet for jeans
Hush for casual cargos
Reiss
Whistles
River Island, if you're happy to filter out some of their rubbish
Sezane for knitwear
Free People
Next/ lipsy for dresses

Ooh thank you. I will have a search for skinny boot leg. I think I have flashbacks to my 90's crispy school trouser bootlegs 😂

I also need to realise that I don't have to wear boots just because it's winter! I go round expecting a snowstorm for some reason!
