DS christening - aged 17 months - what to wear / adapt DD dress??

DS is to be christened at the end of August (hopefully when get chance to see the priest and DH to get the time off work!!)

I have DD's christening robe - it was aged 6-9 months and was a very simple silk dress from Next - piccie attached!

Has anyone got any ideas how to adapt this to make an outfit for him - he is walking well, so I was thinking of possibly getting the skirt made into a top and getting some linen cropped trousers??

It is in a catholic churh BTW (if that makes any difference)!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - havent got the cash to waste on a new outfit that would never be worn again.

Thanks ladies!!
