Collagen Acne Help

I got on the collagen bandwagon after starting Mounjaro and reading numerous threads and recommendations on here.

Seems for 99% of people that after a month they are dewey, wrinkle free and angel haired.

I’ve been taking marine collagen powder, and it does contain biotin.

I had two rounds of roaccutane as an adult so I’ve never had great skin. But finally got to a stage of my life where it was just period-breakouts and otherwise fine.

Two weeks into collagen and I’ve had a crop of spots across my forehead and around my jaw bones, a few on my cheeks. I did some reading and it appears that this can be a side effect as it creates an over production of keratin.

Does anyone have any experience and is this a side effect I can’t side step?? Is it possible that I can just get a collagen powder without biotin? Does it calm itself down. Or do I have to give up??

I was really hoping this would work for me as I’m looking deflated and old, my hair is thinning (stopping the jabs soon) and was keen for it to support my overall joint health too.

Any advice from you wonderful ladies gratefully received!!!

I have well controlled acne rosacea but terribly dry skin, also well managed. When I started collagen I found my skin no longer needed the heavy duty care, so I eased up, and I started getting acne. I reintroduced glycolic acid and niacinamide and that's keeping it in check.

Thanks for your reply - can you recommend a glycolic acid at all? I don’t know whether to give up or add more products!!

I can’t take biotin either, it gives me the most painful deep seated spots. Took me ages to work it out so mentioning it here! I think it’s something to do with needing to balance all vitamin b vitamins. Anyway - I take the vital proteins collagen, the big blue tub and not had any spots since then.

I've struggled with spots and have been fine with collagen (I take marine and bovine). In the past, I've never been able to take Biotin without a flare, so my advice is to try one without.

Slightly different topic, but I had this (quite expensive) treatment last year and the results have been great, no acne since

your best using bovine collagen from grass-fed cows I've been on the moujaro for a while and shed nearly my own body weight. Gravity has taken its toll, being supported by fat and stretching the skin when that support is lost, with the skin unable to be elastic enough to wrap around the body, it's sag and droop without that bulk supporting it. I think the option is surgery, realistically, as I have come to accept, unless I get fat again and fill the skin to be tight and wrinkle-free and wash in between the creases and folds where the bacteria flourish...but don't want that shame again, feeling a burden and especially on an economy flight, being trapped in the middle and feeling ashamed
