Eye make-up for new eyes!

I have recently gone from very short-sighted to a bit long-sighted. Basically I hid behind my bottle-bottom glasses for years as they made my eyes look very small and any makeup seemed to make it worse. I now have lovely new glasses but they slightly magnify my eyes and I don't wear them all the time so am now bare faced (feeling very exposed) some of the time.

My eyes look red and tired though, and I would like to wear a bit of nice eye make-up but have no idea where to start! I also have very dry eyes and skin, so powder is not going to work, mascara irritates and I have no skills. They are also slightly hooded. I want to look natural and wide awake and a bit twinkly!

Can you suggest looks and products and tutorials for a make-up idiot? If it helps, I have black hair with white/grey streaks, olive skin and blue eyes.

The Inkey List do a really nice caffeine eye cream to help with tired eyes.

A good, light formulation reflecting eye concealer would be good. Apply sparingly to avoid creasing. No 7 do a very reasonably priced one, loads of people swear by touch eclat but I didn’t get on with it.

Can you get your lashes and brows dyed if you can’t tolerate mascara? That will help frame your eyes.

Sorry, this isn’t answering your question, but can I ask what prescription you’ve gone from and to? And how old you are? I live in hope of my extreme short-sightedness reducing, but at 52 there’s no sign of that happening yet!

can I DM? It's a bit long and convoluted and possibly outing

My eyebrows are still black, but getting thinner. My eyelashes are dark but very stumpy! I think with all my eye issues I would be very cautious about dyeing.

I like no 7 product so will look for concealer - is it for under eye or eye lid? I was just reading about primers helping smooth out crepy skin on eyelids.

the no 7 one is for under eye but I use it everywhere to be honest, lids included and over blemishes.

if you can’t do mascara or dyes, maybe a touch of eyeliner or dark shadow applied with a thin brush along your lash line to make your eyes pop?

"maybe a touch of eyeliner or dark shadow applied with a thin brush along your lash line to make your eyes pop?" - yes this is what I want but cannot achieve!

is there a product called "liner for idiots with no makeup skills"?

What about going for a lash lift and dye at a beautician x

I am rubbish with actual eyeliner, so I bought a skinny eyeliner brush from boots and watched a bunch of YouTube videos about how to use eyeshadow easily to have the same effect. Much easier!

I bought an eye liner recently that was a sort of Smokey brown I draw a line of back of top lashes and then use a little sponge (on the other end of eye liner) to smudge so it looks equal.

Yes, please do (but only if you’re comfortable doing so).
