How do you buy a coat - sizing?

I haven’t worn a coat for years, I didn’t spend a lot of time outside, can’t stand to be happed up in the car and I was very insulated. Since losing weight (thanks to WLI) I am finding I’m already cold and actually not looking forward to winter at all this year.

I am looking for coats, but do you size up because you wear clothes under them or is this already considered? Of course I will try some on but I’m not anywhere near a store for a while so was planning to make a start online. I’m currently a 14-16 and still losing so any new clothes I get are a 14 but do I need to try 16 coats?

Usual size for me although I try them on as sizing can vary so much

Yes i size up in winter coats I can't stand things being to tight though,

I'm a size 10/12. I have some coats that are a size 16, some a primark XS.

I find with coats is always best to try them on.

I buy a size bigger, esp with winter coats, to ensure that I can wear thick jumpers/cardis underneath.

It would be style dependent, but most casual coats would allow for what you are wearing underneath.
If the coat is more formal or tailored you may need to size up.

if online , read reviews. They often include a size gauge, and other buyers will give you a clue as to fit.
