Shoes that are as comfy as trainers but are not trainers

Can anyone recommend a good make of comfy shoe that still looks nice? I've tried marks ballet flats after years in New Balance and my heels are shredded:(

Flip-flop ballets look nice but very expensive so I don't want to risk buying them if they rub

I'm eyeing up the fitflop loafers, I got some of the trainers and they are amazingly comfy.

Glad I've found this thread as I need similar, but it has to be something I can wear with tights and professional wear. I'd prefer something that comes further up the foot than ballet style flats.

I also have the problem that I like opaque black tights and I think they often look dreadful with ballet flats (unless they too are black). Maybe I need to branch out into American Tan.

Opaque tights look great with ballet flats.

Gabor are very comfy but their deaign can be a bit dated sometimes. Excellent quality, very dirable as well

Arcopedico (Arcopedica) boots are wonderful. More comfy than sneakers.

These, an absolute dream, as comfy as trainers.

Russel & Bromley loafers. I had a pair re heeled after 6 years and bought my most recent pair 2 years ago and they still look brand new and fit like a glove.

Ever considered barefoot shoes? I made the transition a few years ago and my feet just don’t ache. Depending on the shape of your feet, different brands might be better for you than others but Happy little soles is a great UK stockists with free returns. I love BeLenka, and Peerko as brands and have a couple of others, if you have low volume feet something like Vivo might suit? I’ve got an older version of these, super comfy, I’ve also got BeLenka ballet flats which might be an easier transition shoe as I know lots think they’re super ugly!

I have two pairs of fit flop loafers, they’re incredibly comfy and good for work wear.

Flat shoes like those ballet flats dont give any support at all, cushioning is not the same as support. Its fine if you dont have any pronation but most people do, I see some horrors when Im watching people walk around (I love shoes so always looking at what people are wearing) and most people's ankles roll in (mine too, in the wrong shoes)

Fitflop ballets have changed my life this year. Not a rub in sight

Ballet pumps give me plantar fascitis AND Achilles problems. I haven’t recovered from when they were last fashionable in the 2000’s

Cakeandusername · 20/09/2025 21:55

The fit flops are just like wearing trainers though. I walk lots of steps on my office day and they are perfect as can be worn with a dress. Nothing like ordinary cheap ballet pumps.

They aren’t cheap but 15% off for new purchasers.

Nothing is more comfortable than Skechers

I line Josef Seibel shoes. The styles do vary a lot, but there’s done gems amongst the Jess fashionable styles.

I do agree with @redlightgreenlight123 . To get more comfortable shoes that last, you need need to invest in them.

I bought some Vivaia flats, they are ridiculously comfy. Lots of people often seem to sell new but much cheaper in Vinted so worth checking on there once you found a style you like. I have the ‘Veronica’

I bought a pair of Vivaia flats and they cut the backs of my heels to shreds. 😣😫

I wear Ecco. They have great shoes that look like smart work shoes but are as comfy as trainers. I haven't worn anything else since I was 14 and it's been great. No decisions to make.

Once you have worn a pair of Ecco shoes it's almost impossible to wear anything else. The comfort and support is next level. All of my other shoes never get worn now because they feel so uncomfortable in comparison.

These are like wearing air, weigh nothing, look nicer on but with a trouser only

The Vivaia flats have removable insoles so I take them out and replace with insoles with good arch support. It's not as supportive as the same insole in a more solid shoe, but it's pretty good. I know I'm better off in a more supportive shoe but sometimes I just want to wear cute ballet flats.

I love my Giesswein wool runners, very similar indeed to Allbirds but I found the Giesswein a slightly nicer shape on my foot and I like their colours. I wear their ballet flats too, both the flats and the runners can go in the washing machine. https://uk.giesswein.com/collections/merino-shoes-women#merino-runners-women
I’m also another FitFlop fan, I’ve found their sandals and boots super-comfortable

I can vouch for the fitflop ballet flats, I had plantar fascitis, I didn't see a doctor about it even though it was excruciating pain. I recovered by wearing fitflops almost exclusively for a couple of years after I saw a recommendation on here, their flats in summer, boots in winter. I also recommended to a work colleague that also suffered from PF and they also found relief.
